Im bringing in a set of mogs that will be here in a coulpe of weeks and they are going under my Tata.. Im also going to swivell the chassis like the willocks of the 60's


Im thinking of putting standard GQ or Rangie suspension front and rear as I dont need articulation cause I have the swivel. Im going more for ease of install and comfort. With the swivel i was thinking truck stubaxle....
The tailshaft will run underneath the swivel and I will run the fitted commodore V6 & auto with a nissan 720 remote mount tc...

What do you think..

Are you serious?

Why swivel the chassis? This has been tried lots and leads to poor ground pressure distribution, unpredictable behaviour (especially under power) and no acutal increase in capability over a well designed suspension system (which you'll need anyway)

As late as last year's top truck in the US there was a swivel chassis car running and it sucked - basically rolling itself in a bog hole.

Also... why poor ground pressure? I dont get that one... all 4 wheels touching the ground with weight on aposed to 3 on and 1 off when you are climbing..... you got me there...

I also should have mentioned that the swivel will be dynamic with either suspension springs or air / hydro rams interconnected
With the springs my idea was to basically treat the rear section of the chassis as a diff and the front as the chassis with shock towers comming up from the front section and springs seating on top of the rear.... u dig?

all 4 wheels spinning tyres without sufficient pressure on them due to the suspension not loading up on some of the wheels. With 3 on the ground and 1 in the air at least 2 of those wheels will have alot of pressure on them giving much better traction as long as you have lockers. I've seen crazy, super flexy rigs stuck in a spot spinning all 4 wheels whilst a less flexy rig walk through picking a wheel up

After reading his other posts i doubt it.

A tata cant be any worse than a Gwagen. I would push a Tata up a hill before i rode in the passenger seat of a Gwagen. No mater how capable they are supposed to be everyone still thinks your gay driving one.

No not a tatra... a tata for those who dont know its an indian cab chassis 4x4... like rodeo... hilux and the like....
They are 404 axles and I will be keeping the 10 00 20 wheels on it...
maybe register as a tractor as I want it to be a on road driver... not everyday but some...

Im about 2 weeks off ripping apart the Tata... sourcing bits atm...
Then the pics will start...

i have seen that 2 but more often then not the more wheel travel will get through easier

Back on topic, Tatra is a vehicle manufacturer in Kopřivnice, Czech Republicis. they make cars and trucks. tata is a little indian thing haven't seen much of them except their little 4wd things

you can't register it as a tractor that is just an urban myth. You should be speaking to an engineer before you start doing anything

You CAN register tractors in several states. Dunno about NSW though.
In vic we had 2 registered tractors with special plates on them.

Oh yeah.

I have a mate who registered a 6 wheeled armoured personnel carrier- not sure how though - some kind of special rego.

as guts said a Tata isn't a tractor. You can't reregister a vehicle as a tractor when it originally was a car rego to beat the modifications rules

Yep, my understanding is that you can't reduce the number of ADR's the vehicle has to compy to, so in the case of a TATA, you're not going to be able to reg it as a tractor as it was manufactured as a passenger vehicle.

I don't acutally mind the look of the TATA cab (and as that's all you'd be using, that's OK.

Youre going to have massive problems with the swivel chassis in terms of engineering approval. Talk to some engineers, do your homework, and ask specific questions.

You asked what people think, I'm giving you my opinion. The end result will be a car that's less capable than the 404 mog you got the diffs from. If you want a capable car running mog diffs, just run a mog (which can be legally road driven) and save yourself all the heartache.

There are two 404 Mogs for sale in Sydney for about 20-25K each.

Twin lockers, portal axles, dead stock and legal on 42's.
ADR's, what are ADR's? Mogs don't have to adhere to ADR's.

Normal car licence is fine too :cool:

I dissagree.. I have spoken to vic roads... also I know of a guy around the corner who mounted a f100 cab on an old butterbox international chassis and custom built wheels that are about 6ft diamiter and its reg as tractor...
even though it is a truck chassis and light truck cab..
