idling troubles

Post by skippa83 »

hey guys,
i am having trouble with my sierra, when it is at idle it revs at 1500-2000 rpm. I think the auto choke is stuck. what is the best way about fixing this problem? is there a way i can adjust it? it will occasionally idle like it is supposed too but most of the time it will rev really high. any help would be appreciated.

First things first, check all vacuum lines for leaks. Any vacuum leak will cause high idling. Once you are happy there are no leaks then look at the carby.

Do you have the rubber seal on top of the carby between and the inlet adaptor elbow thingy (what is that thing called), mine was badly worn and the previosly described steel thingo, and the steel thingo was pressing on a shaft that operates one of the internal carby valves, thus causing high idle.

(Very crap description but I didn't pick up it but it was done for me.)
