PROTECTIVE SLEEVE - Over Dynamic winch rope

Post by KiwiAngler »

Greetings

I want to put a length (about 12 -15mtrs) of the orange protective sleeving over the first 12- 15 mtrs of my dynamic rope winch cable.

This will serve 2 purposes:

1) it will mean that the first layer (about 22 turns) of the dynamic rope will have a cover thus improving it's resistance to UV while on the winch and

2) I can slide the protective cover down if the rope has to go over any rough or rocky areas whilst winching and it would then act as an anti-abrasion for the dynamic rope

I know a number of 4x4 outlets (ARB and TJM) sell it in 2 mtr lengths but I am looking for 1 unbroken length about 12-15mtrs long

I have read about others doing this but haven't found a supplier yet

any ideas who I could get this from is appreciated

better still go to a local boating/yachting/marine store and check out what they have, all plasma rope has its origins in the shipping/fishing industry, a lot of it can be brought at reasonable prices from marine shops, I dare say you could get the sheathing from one also, they use it a lot on yachts.
