31" tyres on vitara
31" tyres on vitara
hi this is my situation:
i own a 90 suzuki vitara swb. just bought a set of brand new simex all terrain 31 inch tyres.
my vitara is stock and from what ive gathered a 2 inch body lift kit + some guard trimming will suffice to fit them. i have no idea what wheels to use.( i think f100 rims will fit?) the tyre measurements are 31x10.5x 15 inch rim.
any of your past experiences or info on this subject would be much appreciated.

Use ROH trak II rims. These have the correct offset for a vitara and will minimise the cutting. Most F100 rims have much less backspacing and the tyre will come well back into the firewall.
Should fit fine with a 2" BL and the front edge of the sill trimmed back. Only the inside edge of the sill requires cutting, the outside edge (the bit you can see) will stay stock.

Mud-Pigsierra - they're speedy rims or equivalent - they have -ve offset. Whilst this is good for track width, stability, and chassis clearance, it's part of the reason you had more clearancing to do there than with a rim with 5P offset (stock)
That's why I recommended the Trak II rims for ease of fitment.

Yeah we didn't know that back at the time haha... Um but they are a 15x8 which my mate was after for going bigger in the future which probably wont even happen now anyway...

Yep, should work out fine. You might find a little bit of tyre/chassis contact but nothing too dramatic. You dan adjust the steering stop on the pitman arm to assist with this and stop the tyre grabbing the chassis too hard.

I had my 31x10.5's on 7" wide rims with either 10P or 15P (can't remember exactly) with a 50mm bodylift and some minor trimming at the rear of the front wheelwells and flattening of the seams. The steering stops needed minor adjustment for the tyres to stay off the chassis.

Here's some advice:
I went through the pain on sunday so hopefully you won't have to!
Roll back the rear guards. They will do the most damage. I cut up brand new 31 Maxxis beacause when I was getting full flex (with two beautiful girlies in the back for ballast), the edge of the guard cut and sliced the tyre. Nothing too deep, they tyres still work, but they are quite chopped up. I thought the rear end would be fine, and focused on cutting, bashing the front end. The front end will rub, the rear will cut. So make sure you get in there and roll back the edge of the rear guards. That way, if there is contact, it will only rub, rather than have a slicing edge.
I'll be agressively cutting and mabey body lift now I think.

Nah no Body lift. I have 40 mm Coil spacers. BTW I also have F100 rims, however the front rims are suzuki offset. The rear are F100 with more offset which may have also contributed to them hitting the guards.
