NEED HELP URGENT! ROLLED ZOOK, ENGINE WON'T START

Post by GRPABT1 »

Hey guys, I just took my sierra out wheeling for the first time in ages and tipped it on it's side on the very first hill. I got it back on all fours pretty quick but lost most of the oil. After getting it to the base of the hill and filling it back up with new oil the engine won't start. It's like the motor is seized or something, the starter engages but only jolts the motor like it can't turn it past a point. The motor is a MK1 swift GTi and the starter is pretty new and the battery is a big one and still has plenty of charge.

Anyone know what the problem might be? Please help if you know cause my poor zook is still out there on the track.

Pull the spark plugs out and turn her over for abotu 30 seconds. Then let it sit for a bit before putting the plugs back in. It should start fine then.

Really? You think it's flooded to the point of hydraulicing or something?

Oil can run up into the chambers, and when you try to start it you can hydraulic lock it. NOT GOOD. Pull the plugs, and crank it for a bit. But be careful as what is in the cylinders will come flying out the plug holes so watch your eyes etc. Let us know how you go. Hopefully trying to turn it over has not killed it. Best bet anytime you flop or anything in nay car is to pull the spark plugs/glow plugs and clean it out first.

When this happened to mud_muncher last year
Image
we pulled the plugs and turned over the engine and a whole heap of oil spat out the plug holes...We then refitted the plugs and turned it over and this happened for about 5 minutes...

It cleared up and ran ok after all of that... :D

I love this forum  You guys rock, thanks for your help. I knew you had to remove the plugs when flooding it with water but never realised the need in a roll.

It made one hell of a mess though lol but all up there is no damage that a good wash and a can on black spray paint can't fix :D

Oh and mine smoked like a crop duster for a while too

Really the damage isn't worth posting, scratched the paint off the side of the tray and the tiniest of dints in the drivers side flair to match the one on the other side :p I didn't even have to adjust my mirror lol
