Does anybody know if window nets need to be removable or at least be partially removable for comps

There was a bit of discussion at the OBC. That a large number of guys want to either have the rules changed or need to redesign there nets.
As some wanted to remove them while in the water crossings and could get the net off. And I bet when under the pump or really needing to get out via the window net. It could be a little daunting.
So look at the design with which you go with. And make it so it is going to work as what there designed for and also be able to be removed easily.
As some competitors it appeared they where just cable tied around the top of the door. And self tappers used at the bottom.

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY....
When I used to race Fender Benders at the speedway, Press Studs were all that was required, (inside), so the thing was able to be pushed in and removed, but not pushed out by a helmet.

There are a few ways to attach the net to the window frame...I have seen people use velcro, cable ties and recently I modified a set for Ian Paltridge that utilized press studs.
Along the bottom there are, once again, a few different ways to go...bungee loops, sailtrack, adhesive velcro and so on.
But in my opinion the best way (for quick removal/refitting) would be press studs around the window frame and bungee loops along the bottom. If you need to get out via the window in a hurry, you dont want to be looking for velcro tabs, or worse, sidecutters to cut the cable ties.

mine have wrap round tabs for the window frame top and a sinle "locating" loop to the rear, then velcro the length of the sill... furry side permanently attached to the car.
have had a few head taps and not moved.. but easy to rip away the bottom and get in or out if needed.

bit of a hijack... but does anyone know if you can get window net material in cargo barrier size?
I want to have a quick to put up/take down removable cargo barrier just to keep the dog and a few camping bits and pieces in the back when travelling but also want to be able to quickly drop it down to put in a long load from bunnings etc? Does something like this exist?

I would not use zip ties. I bought the dear as 54.5kg rated ones from cabac and used them to hold on what was left of my grill. they kept breaking within hours of driving. In the end I had about 12 on the grill. they were not a bad batch as I tested them at work. I could see them failing when you punch your arm through when in a high speed roll but failing to break when you are about to drown!
The majority of trucks a Baja used sail track at the bottom and at the top one end was fixed in a tube the other used small seat belt style clasps welded on.
they looked like small aeroplane seatbelt clips
perhaps baby seats have small suitable clips. they appeared to be just the steel internals without the plastic shell and the tongue was cut as short as possible.
another method was fixed bottom, top had a 8mm roundbar one end in a tube the other end forced into tube by a spring (on the opposite end over the tube pushing on a washer welded to the round bar. So to get out just pull the top corner towards you and push out.
If anyone is interested I will get some laser cut ones made and tig welded.
I will charge $100 for a pair.

We got Bartso's done to size. Took the practice door Bartso had in and they sorted it for us. We used press studs and bungy straps, but in hindsight, I would go the velcro. They do the strapping in 2 different widths aswell. I think this was the wider strap and the other option was a 2" width. Can't remember that far back.

Each competing vehicle will have fitted window nets on each side of the front windows of the vehicle. These will be of a quality webbing material in construction and fitted in such a way as to satisfy the Chief Verifier on inspection. Plastic construction bunting and the like will not be passed. (see Standards: photo #2 on the Nissan club page/Trials) If it is not possible to fit window nets to the vehicle, then an exemption can be applied for via the Event Secretary to the Clerk of the Course well prior the event. The application will be considered and permission granted to substitute wrist restraints of Australian Standards Approval.
