My 89 gq with rear disc brakes has a really odd noise that sounds like nothing that i have ever heard before, squeek/drone/grind. Its not the pads and the caliper is tight.
The noise is wheel rpm dependent and does not change when the brakes are applied hard or soft. However it will stop if pot holes are hit or turning sharply.
I was thinking that it could be a wheel bearing but i have pumped some grease in around it and have had no change. other than replacing the bearing I dont know what else.
Any thoughts would be helpfull

squeek/drone/grinding from rear wheel
I think you are on the right track, sounds very much like the noise i had in mine a few years ago, intermittent noise would come and go, looked at the brakes all seemed fine, and of course when i took to a diff place i couldn't get it to make the noise. Ended up with the diff being rebuilt, too much backlash, new bearings and the Lsd reset.
