CDI and LPG
Just fitted a procomp 6al cdi unit to my 351 clevo...
The truck is gas only, with an airod gas control relay dealy
Since the CDI unit says not to connect any wires(other than it's own) to the coil, I needed another coil -ve input for the gas relay, so I connected it to the tach output from the CDI. This doesn't seem to work, the truck will run for 1-2 seconds on the prime gas, 3-4 seconds on carby clean, but won't continue to run on gas. The led on the controller comes on as usual for the primer, but goes out and doesn't come back on when the engine does run(briefly..)
Has anyone had this drama? How did you fix it?

what side of the coil was the wire conected to be for you put the procomp garbage on it?... if it was the neg side you should conect it to tach out on the procomp. if it was the pos side you need to conect it to the switched power wire on the procomp. if it needs the tach signal and the it wont run of the the tach out, you need to find a new way run it.
on slightly less helpful note, you are going to have troubles with that unti. they are cheap for a reason.. You have been better off paying the $375 a real MSD 6A costs.

from what understand what you are needing is a signal wire telling your realy your engine is running. If this is correct one option you have is to tightly wind some say 3 mm insulated wire around either your coil lead or a spark plug lead for about 50 mmand thight wrap it in electrical tape. We used to do this on some gas set ups on forklifts. It works by getting enough voltage created off the plus of power going down the plug lead to let the relay know the engine is still running.

As for the quality, opinions I've heard are about 50/50, interestingly MSD in the states has about the same reputation for 4WD use...
seems like it's just a tachometric relay. see if procomp or MSD have a compatible relay for use with the CDI
there are off road versions of the 6AL and the blaster2 coil.
only reason i said anything was that we've a number of cars come in at work running the full procomp igntions, (dizzy CDI coil) having nothing but trouble.
the simple fix was fit a MSD coil and a NARDEK brand dizzy that runs with bosch magnetic pickup and bosch ignitor. cost the guys less then the cost of the procomp setup and ran heaps better, even without the CDI

MSD is't much chop either, put ICE ignition on. The MSD is only multispark to 3500 rpm where it returns to a short duration crap spark, the ICE module charges the coil to full capacity up to 10 000 rpm using high current not high voltage whichgives longer spark duration. The MSD and i would thing the pro comp will have a tacho out you can hook the gas switch to, failing that do about 20 wraps on 3mm wire around a plug lead and run that to the coil neg terminal on the safety switch.

well we might just leave the procomp bashing now.
How did you go with this? any luck getting it to work?
