any spring or BL? and what vehicle is this. NT or WT also.

I would be thinking bumpstop extension is the best so far.

I'd change to rims with more offset before fitting spacers.
New rims are cheaper than spacers too.

I got a set of 15x7 Desert Rat (like sunrayisa) rims to suit a CJ7 Jeep with an offset of neg 15mm for $55ea from Bob Jane's.

X2.

Speedy's (-15 in a 15X7, or -28 in a 15X8) will fix the problem, however, your saying the clearance problems are in the back? (As in the rear wheels?) Normally clearance problems will be far worse in the front than the rear.

wheel spacers

Post by waandy »

yea the front is scrubbing on the leafs at near full lock but i can rig something up to fix that. and hopefully different rims will help with that. rear tyre scrubing is the major concern. scrubs over everything. even on road. is there any diference between the hard top hi tops compared to soft top in the wheel arch/ diff area? go the bigest offset rim i can find?

Except for custom rims, the biggest offset you will find is the speedy's anyway. But pretty much yes more offset the better in a zook but you may have to trim the outside of the gaurds then.

thx .what model speedy would give me more offset? the -15 15x7s or the -28 15x8s? and who sells them and what are they worth? still cheaper than wheel spacers? have removed 31s 4 time being so it is driveable. even tho it has no grip.lol

They're effectively the same. That's why I like to work in backspacing rather than offset. Clearance is always a problem on the inside of the tyre so regardless of rim width, backspacing is the measurement that's critical.

so a -28 8" rim has 3" of backspacing.
a -15 7" rim has... 3" of backspacing. (there's actually only 0.3mm the difference on paper)

So yes, the 8" rim has more "offset" but the inside edge of the tyre will be in nearly the same spot with either rim.

I say "nearly" because the wider rim will reduce sidewall bulge and aid clearance a little at the shock mount/spring.

Personally, I prefer 10.5" tyres on a 7" rim, but each to their own. If you're narrow track, the added overall width the 8's give you will help with stability.

Hope that helps.

Hi all,

Just for your info, the "Speedy Desert Rat 15" x 8" -28" is no longer available. It has been replaced with the "Speedy Desert Rat 15" x 8" -24"

I am running these with 31 x 10.5 with no scrubbing anywhere. I'm VERY happy with them! (even at very low pressures) :D

Cheers,

Pez

Either the Speedy 15x7 or 15x8 should work fine for you. Its personal preference really.... Both will help solve your tyre to spring clearance issue.

Price ranges from $50 to $90 per rim. It pays to shop around!

WTF! they stopped making the 15x7?!

I was thinking of the 15X8 anyway for the extra width but bugger the 15X7's were a better fit for a 10.5 tyre

Exactly - the 15X8 has changed from -28 to -24 offset.

And the bigger offset and 15x8 inch rim allows you to upgrade to bigger tires in the future if you plan on going to say a 33" tire or 35" where as a 15x7 really isn't the best idea for larger tires of that size.
