QD 32 Problems???

Post by 4runner_boy »

Gday my old man has a 98 mdl nav,it has the QD 32 engine ,lately it has been chewing a sh#tload of fuel,we have changed all filters and has made no difference,i have heard that the EGR valve tends to stick on these.
Can anyone confirm this and where and how can i fix it<
Your help would be appreciated cheers

EGR valve? I don't think these have an EGR system. have you checked the thimble filter in the pump ? (4.2l diesels).

The QD32 is virtually a cut down TD42, I wouldn't be surprised if they do run the banjo filter in the injection pump like the TD42's.

How many KM has it done? Its more likely that its time for the injectors to be tested/rebuilt if required and the pump adjusted to suit how its been wearing.

i'm not that familar with those motors. however some i think some are fully ecu controlled. no pumps tp tweak. just pay to check if its mechanical pump or not and if it has egr (look for pipe going from exhaust to inlet).

any smoke ?
if so what color and when do you see it?

check the filter on hte injection pump, i know on td42's they are a quick job usually costing about $30
are you finding a lack of power or just incresed fuel consumption?

black smoke + lack of power.
most likly intake restriction ie blocked filter or crushed intake.
2nd, egr stuck open (if it has one).
otherwise injectors
lastly if its had some work done on it, cam or injection timing is out.

He has just told me,they realised it started using more fuel after picking dodgy fuel up,they had cleaned everything out and new filters and put some cleaner additive in.The problems still there.
It has to be injectors i think.
