Would a sprung-over 75-series get axle wrap?

Would a sprung-over 75-series (ute) get axle wrap? A friend is considering doing a spring over conversion. He might keep all the leaves, or remove some... He has standard size tyres, 31's maybe?

Is there anything else major to consider? Would there be enough adjustment in the steering?

if your only goin to run the 31's and near stock spring pack i dont think you will have any trouble, i do on my 60 but its running alot less springs and 35's

you will have to change to high steer arms or make up a new arm of the hub like what i have done.

pinoion angles might need to be changed.

you will have to consider tailshafts, brake lines and other things like this.

sprung over 75 on 31's would look interesting. if you go large tyres and no diff gears you'll get a fair bit of wrap. if you go large tyres and gear correctly with diff gears your wrap will be reduced. you might still need some sort of torque rod to control the rear, and don't change rear pinion angles, unless you want vibrations.

To be considering a SPOA on a 75, you would be thinking of running upwards of 35 inch tyres, or it is pretty pointless. Any leaf spring experiences axle wrap - Think back to newtons 3rd law - every action has an equal and opposite reaction. So the torque transmitted from the axle to rotate the tyres also goes back in the opposite dirrection. But depending on the leaf spring pack thickness, arch, spring rate it will respond differntly, stiff large packs do not suffer nearly as bad as thin soft flexy packs. If he is after a soft flexy ride he should deffinatley look into a trac bar.


As far as major things to consider, a SPOA is a fairly major job, so a lot of through research first, as well as consulting an engineer (if road rego is required) would be a good idea. Steering, driveline, brake lines etc etc all require modification, plus there are plenty of other small things that will pop up.

ive never gont any vibration at all after changing the pinion angle, infact i think its better

SPOA on 31's is a massive waste of time. They will fit on stock suspension.

You need a grand or two aside for steering (hi-steer arms etc) Can be bodged up at home .. not that you would want to.
