CV now goes click . Help .

Post by fazza81 »

Hi all,

Just came back from fraser where recovering a new hilux 2nd low I think I may have done a C.V left.

My questions are.

There is only one CV per side correct?
Is there any tricks when changing them?
I can get a new one for $70 does anyone know if is cheaper to get them reco?
Lastly if I pull the front drive shaft out can the car still be driven if the wife needs to?

Thanks

So wife just pulled up went and had a look inside C.V has a torn boot so guessing there are 2 c.v's a side and a good chance the inside one is the offending item.

So any tips on changing them.

Basically you can't take the cv out and just drive round. You'l lose all the diff oil.

You need a big hammer and an assortment of sockets. Pull it out to see what is wrong - I would have said it'd be th outer CV you have broken.

Maybe a silly question, but how do you know you have done a CV?

if its just clicking you may get away with just replacing the boot and grease. bout the same amount of work but quite a bit cheaper.

Well I figure it must be a CV as the boot is torn and it now clicks in 4wd with it getting worse as you turn.

I can get a full shaft both CV's for $110 so I will replace the lot.
