id look at lifting ur transmission up n fitting a low profil gearbox xmember first. look at how many logs n rocks uv hit with it that have actully stopped u, imo it wouldnt worth fitting a bash plate with the stock gearbox mount.

from experience you need to lift the transmission 4 or 5 inches to get a belly pan of any use on the car. having a plate hang down 4 inches is still going to get caught on shit.
flat belly is a big job for most too, means cutting out the trans tunnel and clearancing for the front tailshaft. it also get VERY close on the rear horseshoe crossmember.
but too answer the question. a well supported 4mm plate will be plenty, unsupported 5mm will be fine too.

turbos are nice but i'd rather be blown
This will be added to my website tommorow evening. Crossmembers are painted I just need to collect. Price is $275 gain 50mm over standard clearance
This is a new 1 piece crossmember and skid design. I have had the older 2 piece style out in rigs for 5 years now.

Just a note Bubs, see how your design leaves the head of the big bolt in the transfer mount exposed on the bottom? well last year in a comp I saw a bloke come down hard on some logs with a crossmember like that and push the shaft of that bolt straight through the housing of his transfer.bubs wrote:This will be added to my website tommorow evening. I had a crossmember like that on my old Lux for years with no probs but if I wear to build another now I would weld a bit of bent flatbar as a protector for that bolt head.

With that 10mm spacer the bolt comes no where near the bottom of the cross member. The next run will not have that larger hole on the actual crossmember. Only the 4 mounting holes

I would prefer not to say what it is, but it is not 250GR mild steel. My old crossmembers where only 250GR mild steel with out a single failure.Sic Lux wrote:WTF did you drop your lux from a height right onto it. I had a bubs crossmember on my old Hilux with dual cases (in my avatar), I bought it used, then abused it without a hassle.
I've now ordered another for my Farm ute (that was my justification for another 4WD) and have no dramas what so ever recommending Bubs' product.
