Current model Hilux X-Cab

Post by jaztaz »

Am seriously thinking of buying one of these. It's a 2006 diesel, 5 spd xcab with arb bar, lforce 240's, 44000 ks, mtz's on sunnies, etc. Does anybody know of any problems with these. I have had a 95 sr5 xcab for years now and liked it very much. Is the gearbox as weak as the earlier models (just spent $3000 on mine after 290000ks). Does the donk give trouble? Can the engine be better tuned with zorst, chip, etc? Any help would be good.
Regards Jaz.

get a 3 inch exhaust including dump pipe, then get a steinbauer if you can afford to, bout 1200bux. the diesel will rock and roll then, a 3 inch lift and some trimming will let you run 286/75x16's and this should get you almost anywhere.

a rear locker down th4e track will help too.
a front locker wil only bust front diffs and CV's from what Ive heard so dont get a front one.

anything else, just ask

I'm glad you mentioned 285/75/16's as I already have some on 16x10 Amer. Eagle 589's. They fitted on the 95 so they should fit on the 2006 (if not body lift, etc). What I really want to know is if it will cruise longish distances (500ks plus in hot weather) @ better than the spd limit. Lots of long open roads up here.

Front lockers reduce front end breakages. Right foot breaks front diffs and axles.

yeah, no problem mate, cruises good on the open road with the 285's....you get lower revs at 100km an hour compared to stock size tyres, so on the open road, at constant speeds,, you'll use slightly less fuel. around town you'll use bit more.
