how can you tell the ratio of a crown wheel are the markings or can you tell by the number of teeth

i want to no bout the 4.88 ratio mainly

It will probably have the ratio (or tooth count ie 37:9) stamped into the edge of the crownwheel. Or you can count the teeth on the crownwheel and divide that number by the number of teeth on the pinion. Don't forget they are made as a MATCHED set, so don't mix them, even if they are the same tooth count, they will not last if you do..
