Shane I know you were interested in the results of my recent lift with the 3" springs and drop boxes so I'll post them up tomorrow once I get the bump stops right. I should be able to find a good hole to get opposing wheels in the air and show what is possible on a budget? One thing I've noticed with it already is the front bushings (standard gq) in the radius arms are tearing - they're actually limiting flex at the moment (until they tear all the way of course.. and my drivers side bushings are more worn visibly than the passenger side so I may have found why my pootrol wobbles only when i hit a bump with the drivers side wheel! w00t!)

No doubt it will be most of your wobble concerns but there is often multiple things causing the wobbles so don't get too excited just yet.

Let me know when you are ready for new bushes and I will look after you with genine Nissan bushes. GU ones are a bit dearer but they will allow you to flex a bit more.

Standard arm to suit drop boxes and 3 inch have been available for a couple of months now, some guys would'nt know because of my slack advertising efforts.
They are $650 for the passenger side. or $1300 for the 3 inch , 4-5 inch , 6-7 inch

That is genuine bushes pressed in but we do not supply them with the rear pin bushes.
If the rear bushes are needed they can purchase the genuine bushes directly from us.

Has there been any progress on the "competition" shocks with these arms yet?

Interested to know if using the standard shock location, will the body of a 2.5" shock foul on the mount actoss the range of travel? I'm looking at a similar setup for my GU in the future, and plan on utilising the standard spring/shock tower, with the bolt on mount changed to suit the shock.

1MadEngineer, do you know what the radius is at the shock mount to calculate the angle change of the shock accross the range of travel?

Is it better to run the superflex arms with drop boxes? Ie Factory arm with drop box on drivers side and superflex arm with drop box on passengers side.

Thats what I would like to know also, seems strange to have the option to do this as I would have thought that each drop box will be different between manufacturers, whereas the superior arms are made to match :?

Yes it is better to run Superiors Superflex arms with drop boxes, it is also a bit cheaper because you can buy just the one arm.

Obviously they have been made to suit Superiors drop boxes.

There are no 3" drop boxes available in the Superior range are there?
Also, I'm still looking at the best way to buy them, so can you explain why its better running the drop boxes?

No you run a Supeflex arms with no correction so all castor is being corrected at the drop, chassis end.

In other words there are Superflex arms available to suit a standard Patrol and you would only need one arm. You can then use drop boxes for your castor correction.

The drop boxes lower the arms at the chassis end by 100mm. When you run bigger tyres this also affects your castor therefore they suit a Dobinsons 4.5" lift and this is the height of the coils that Superior use as well as Suspension Stuff and many others. If you are running 6" lift EFS or Kings coils, very frequently you are sitting at the same height as the 4-5" lift Dobinsons coils because they are a on a sag journey, therefore you should be running the same drop boxes being 4-5" lift drop boxes.

You could call them 4.5" lift drop boxes but each vehicle is slightly different and these drop boxes will give slightly different corrections for each vehicle so the phrase 4-5" lift drop boxes.

With Dobinsons coils there are so many to choose from (if you know the part numbers), therefore we can select the best coil to suit the amount of weight you are carrying and the kind of ride you like. You will sit between a 4 and 5" lift so we call them 4-5" lift.

as far as i know - there are arms to suit each size/range of lift. but the guys who have STD arms (std height or lifted with drop boxes) have the option of buying only 1 arm and the associated bits.


as far as asking if it is better to run drop boxes, there is always benefits in doing this. Due to the fact that the lower you can have the rear pivot point in direct relation to the axle centerline the easier the tire will ride over obstacles. BUT this is not always good in practice as it may get hung up on stuff, if you lower this TOO far in specific applications. Prerunners / baja / or stadium offroad are the situations than having a long low pivot point would help heaps, but they aren't driver over logs and rocks!

So i should custom up some sliders to sit just below the drop boxes to avoid this.

By the way 900mm and + 1metre shocks have been ordered and should arrive early next year in the Boss adjustable shocks.

hey
iam now making a flex arm based on the superior arm. sould be ready for sale after easter.
we will be giving the 175kw turbo test truck a bashing in reefton over easter.
the new arm is cnc cut from biz80 20mm plate and will fitt standed nissan bushes and is bolt in..
giving a fantastic incress in travel also keeping on road manners.
cost will be about $500 nzd ready to go with bushes, zinc plated and powder coated.

lets keep nz$ in nz

thats just being stupid!! the risk of losing everything over saving maybe $150 and to own a lesser quality part.

Honestly i say go for it, but make sure you sell a decent number of them, as its easier for the lawyers to prepare a good case!! HAHAHAHA :twisted:

I agree, I'm more than happy with my Superior arm, and know its a proven design, so wouldn't buy a cheap copy.
I haven't seen the design of this "new" arm, but if it's just a rip off of the Superior one, I wouldn't buy it on principal alone

Oh, and if anyone didn't read my original post properly, no, its not me making or selling these arms.......
