84 3y extracab Lux Bodgy roadworthy

Post by micks troll »

G'day all I've just recently aquired a 84 model extra cab 3Y petrol 4x4 Hilux (oh the shame  ) I'm keeping it to do up as a work ute/ cheap runnabout, so far it has extractors and exhaust done otherwise fairly stock but with a 2" spring lift. It also has some newish 31" muddies.
What are some good mods etc to get them running sweet and what is the standard tyre size? as I'm lookin to sell the muddies. My Patrols is my toy so mainly want this as a daily driver and reliable workhorse. Any tips will be much appreciated. (Dont hold it against me for owning a Pootrol :P ) Thanks Mick

Is a 3Y Carb?

Service it. Change every filter, every oil, and get some sweet HT tyres on there. Check wheel bearings and shiz. Does it have a decent stereo? Any good? A must for driving to/from work!

I doubt 31's will be stock, it should say on the placard on the door somewhere.

Got any pics?

Cheers mate Yes its the 3y carby. I pick it up tomorrow. I'll be dumping all fluids and filters. Give it a good cleanout etc. Will sell the muddies and get probably some maxxis 751's as Ive had a great run as roadies on the Pootrol. Will probably go 30x9.5s even though she seems to have plenty of power with the 31's
As soon as i get her I'll get some pics! It's got a two tone yellow paint job  ( a bit bodgy) The tray needs some work as it's got ply floor :? otherwise seems fairly straight. Rare to get an extra cab so gunna try and bring her back to full glory
It has speaker boxes made up in the roof but no stereo or speakers :bad-words: .........More money

Hey b!tch features

Bout bloody time you seen the light and bought a toyota :finger: , Although i will call you poofter nuts because its a hilux (joking no need to flame!!!)

Mate we will turn this thing into a DD machine!!! Still sweet to pick me up at 4pm tomorrow to pick up the beast??? Take your GPS so we can see how far out the speedo is with the 31's!

First thing i would be doing is diff breathers!!!! These things have the breather right on top of the housing. Not a good mix if its going to do some beach duties. Speakers and a half decent cd player are cheap as chips i can wire her up for ya, and you can do some welding on my trailer lol wink wink! We can re-spray the tray, how many cans of that stencil paint do you have handy (courtesy of you know who!!!)

cya tomorrow arvo big fella!

ahhhh the same donk as mine mate.
ay man you wont be needing those cv's by any chance will ya?

ive got the 30x9.5's on my truck as dailys. still uses more fuel than
id like it to but comparing them to the 33 bfg's i did have on it i cant really notice a massive reduction in fuel consumption, yeah fair enough uses less
but not as much as you would think so. i would like to try a set of 31's me self to see the differance. i think it would go better with 31's aswell.

i want to know what size they came out with to, but my truck doesnt have
a tyre placard.

Why would 31's give better fuel economy than a 30??

Most likely a 6.00r16 on split rims roll diameter comes over close to a 31in tyre

Good idea about the points. I haven't had any trouble with my pootrol but hey it's a superior 4x4  :finger: I'll look into it. also the ignition coil looks a million years old and either the battery is dying or the alternator is as she only just turns over. Will pick up me tools from the oldies tomorrow to check it over.
What sort of price is an alternator for these thing :?: also whats the rear tailshaft cost :?: as mine has dints and vibrations or maybe it's the tyres :? I pick up some mags and duellers for it on Tueday so will see if it's still vibrating or not  Cheers Mick

hey mick. Ya seen the light :finger:

The standard tyre size they came out with was 205r16. Maybe 205r15. Can't remember exactly, but i know it was 205's. :?
Also what does the plate say on the firewall for your diff ratio. that will tell you the code for it.
First number is the gearbox (G52) then the axle code. Mine is 4.875 ratios and the code is G142.
Anyway let us know mate.
Good luck with it. :)
