What diff ratios??

Post by gq banger »

Hi everyone.
I am thinking about changing the diff ratio's in my wagon but am having a hard time deciding on what ratio. I currently have standard 4.3s fitted to my ZD30 auto with 35" tyres. It drives ok as it is but works harder on hills than I would like. Have any of you changed your diff ratios in your 3Lt patrols?? I am thinking of either 4.625 or 4.88. At the moment when cruising on the highway with the TC locked it is doing around 1850rpm at 100kph. Standard I think from memory is around 2200rpm. I would like to get the RPM back close to standard Any suggestions???
Thanks
Terry

How is that going to help the OP? He is talking about his revs during highway running which would be in high range.
The Marks gears do not change the high range at all. They are low range only.

agreed, perhaps he should be more clearer.. hills in general or in the bush?
leave ya diff ratios alone and put more boost into it, LPG :D

i found mine no worries in high just pottin around the town but needed to alter the low range when in the hard steep stuff.

Sorry I should have been clearer. I already have 83% crawler gears fitted. I was talking more about on road driving. I would like to see the revs up near where they are in a standard vehicle so the auto will hold gear longer on hills. It does drive fairly well as it is but the auto hunts for gears i.e the TC locks & unlocks a bit to often & drops back to 3rd when it doesnt really need to. Has anyone fitted lower ratio diff gears to their ZD30 patrols??

4.6 ratios are ideal for 35" tyres
