Hey everyone, i've done a search but havent had any luck . Has
anyone done a writeup on this carby swap??
Ive heard i can gain some decent power changing to a 1.6 carb. Im sick of my 1.3 carb. its unreliable, idles when it wants, looses power. im always having to unblock the jets..
any pics, info (whats involved) would be great,
thanks

1.6 vitara carby on 1.3
I have a 1.6 carby on a 1.3. It seems to go ok...Dies a little bit on hills still but hey thats the nature of a carb. I'm pretty sure they are just bolt (mine was already on when i bought the motor) I also have Bosch 4 spark plugs that burn hotter to deal with the extra fuel. Sorry I can't help with writeup etc as I didn't fit it myself.
Its a bolt on deal but why bother?
Unless you have done mods to need more fuel EG: porting, polished the head, fitted a big cam, extractors and upped the compression why would you want to increase the fuel supply to it?
I can stand my 1.3 on its rear bumper and still redline it with the stock 1.3 carby.

ahhhh...the people who have not had a 1.6 carby.......
ok...you do 2 things....you get efi...or 1.6 carby....webers....throw in the bin...been there, done that.....
make sure you hook all your vac lines up as per normal.
there should be a small throttle position sensor at the front...remove it.
only hook up your cut-off solenoid and the bowl vent valve which is at the front off to the drivers side. you must power this up, if not it will die under power.
modify your cable so you get max throw.
an most important- put the thing on a freakin co meter and adjust the idle co to fact specs...they are all out...trust me don't wing it!...little tip, apply supaglue to the ring around the needle...let it set and you will be able to adjust it with your fingers.
like i said, if you have never had a 1.6 carby you can't have an opinion, webers and 1.3 carby's should be re-cycled for the crap they are....
would people like me to list the carbys i've messed with?
oh....1.6 carbys run the same jets as a 1.3...just a shit-load better design.

Want33s - more airflow. id doubt the head and manifold are flowing at 100% duty when the 1.3 carb is feeding it.
Thanks Joe
Is there a specific type/year of vitara carb i need to look for, or is there just one type?
And does anyone on here have one for sale?! willing to give it ago, as i figure i need a new carb anyway (already put a rebuild kit through this one)
Thanks Joe

the later the better. try get one that has a seperate fuel feed for the 'foot' pump. this will eliminate flat spots. generaly 90 onwards.
