n00b: Winch repairs

Post by Canyonero 4x4 »

Tried the search function and couldn't find anything (maybe I wasn't doing something right)

I have a second hand Warn XD9000. It worked well when I got it, then the cable jammed (my fault). I freed it and it worked again. Swapped it onto my new rig and she just doesn't do anything.

The clutch lever thing to select between free spool and locked position doesn't want to move. It's currently in the locked position.

I press the trigger and nothing happens, no noise or movement.

I found that there was no power getting to the other side of the solenoid on the bottom left. (Where the main power comes in) Does this mean that the solenoid is rooted. What are they worth to replace? Where can I pick them up?

What regular maintenance can I do to stop it breaking in the future?

I'll try and post up some pic's to give a better idea of what I'm on about

Have you checked wire conections?
I had some loose connections in control box and it would cut in and out(sometimes works, sometimes doesn't)
Also check that earth is grounded properly

have had same issue a while back, a new soliniode will set you back around $45 or you could replace your control box with a spartin soliniode under the bonnet with a remote incab switch. i'm putting one of these in soon as they are more reliable and less prone to issues

Thanks for your help guys. I'll check out all the connections and clean them up abit. Then look into solenoids. Whether I go for the $45 solenoid or $225 one I don't know. All depends on $$$. I really do like the idea of the in-cab switch though.
