Chicks Behind the Wheel 2008

Post by Tubby »

So I'm putting the call out to all women out there in 4WD land (living in Melbourne) to get out there and register for

Chicks Behind The Wheel, Girl Power

http://www.going4wd.com/

This would have to be the first 4WD comp for women in Australia!

Should be a hoot for those that get selected, good luck. Also check out the show on chanel 31, what I've seen is quite good and there isnt any really hard core comp stuff. Let us know how you go and how about a few of you guy's out there letting your other-half take the truck for a bit of a drive. (I dare ya!)

Cheers
Leanne

woemen's comp

Post by cebarry »

go girls  .....have a blast and show the boys how it's done.
I'd love to see more ozzie women drivers enter all comps, especially the Outback Challenge......I've been flying the women drivers flag solo these past 9 years and was finally joined by another women driver this year...but she was from Venezuela (Janeatte) and plans to return next year.......so come on girls....make a plan, it's not that hard and so much fun.....

Wish I could come and cheer you on but it's a tad far from Sydney.

Hi Girls

Great to see you doing such an event. I wish it was in Qld so that i could come too. I have been competing with the boys for the past 7 years and love it immensly, but there is only a couple of other ladies who do the events. I'm lucky though cause i have an amazing navigator who is also a girl JANE VON PIEN (Celia you obviously know who i'm talking about - she's aa legend), so it's great to have an "all girl team".

Go kick some butt!

Have Fun

Did you want me to put a wig and skirt on for you this weekend at tough tracks seeing as Jane has to work? I hope to be as good a navi as Jane is one day!!!

We had to build my wife her own 4x4 so as I could get back behind the wheel of my 4x4. If it were in Qld Im sure she would be in it also.

cheers Geoff.

Unfortunately Geoff would not be in wearing the skirt or wig. We came 6th overall out of 16 vehicles so we were absolutely wrapped. We did no damage either which I definitely have to contribute to Geoff’s skills. Many cars had a lot of damage and the tracks were definitely a major challenge. My film crew, Bry & Adrienne were there to film our endeavours of which Bry will upload to youtube shortly. http://uk.youtube.com/user/DogTyredRacing.
As for your comment about not being in my league - it's taken me years to get here - you can do it if you really want to - mind you, money is a huge factor, we have spent $100,000 on my truck since we bought it 7 years ago and that doesn't include sponsorship. I am very lucky to have my main sponsor Dog Tyred in Kallangar who looks after me very well, I have also had amazing support by Superior Alignments in Narangba also.

Just aim for the stars. I love this sport and wish someone would pay me to do it fulltime cause I would leave my job instantly if i could. I know this won't happen in my lifetime though. This type of extreme 4wd sport has only been around for a short time, so in comparison it won't be up there with the V8 supercars or the like for a very long time.

Have fun.

Hey girls, I also compete with the boys hehehe I used to have a zook and compete in Tough Tracks (Qld). I did rather well, a few trophies here and there - I just get a kick out of beating the boys lol

I actually competed in my partner's patrol wagon at the TT comp just gone (I had never driven it off road before). That was fun - drove it like I stole it :D I got 5th on one track and 10th overall. Not to bad considering.

It is an awesome sport...Just give it a go :D

girls who 4x4

Post by cebarry »

Yes give the girls some support and backing.....
crikey how good would it of been to have such a comp way back when......

Here are a few links...... one real oldie...from the Vit days and some pix and home vids from this years OBC ;) which I hope will be inspirational!

As I've said, I'm offically retired now, but it really has been the best 12+years....helped me cope also... having undergone major Breast Cancer surgery along they way and losing my beloved eldest son to Cancer too ...........so not fair
but it has also turned out to be most incrediable journey even so.
Having my hubby as my navie has been the best too, being able to experience so much together. Apart from 9 OBC's we have also given most other comps a go too....Battle of the States, Dave's XWC's....Tufftruck 02, Cliffhanger 05, a couple of Ateco's & a number of Woodpeckers and then lots & lots of interclub events over the years in club teams too, first in my Suzuki Vitara and then the last 3 yrs a swb & lwb Nissan.

We have spent a lot of money over the years too (without any sponsorship) but it's been worth all the blood sweat and tears and proves that you can do things on the cheap....and you certainly don't have to have a flash truck either.

Starting out in fun events and then progressing up as the confidence builds, is the way to go.
Certainly seems like there are already a number of girls doing v. well....but try & set your sights on the OBC or Cliffhanger....they really are something else and you'll have an absolute ball......

Now it's time for us to give back by being on the "Drive4Life "committee & helping run 4x4 charity trips, raising money for little cripple kiddies and their motorised wheelchairs @ Northcott.

Have fun
Cheers,
Celia
