Nothing too exciting, just thought I'd share a pic of my newly fitted Airflow snorkel.
My first mod to the Mav, unless you count the central locking and stereo
Dunno if anyone wants to know details as this is obvioiusly pretty basic stuff, but:
- 4WD Systems in Adelaide delivered to Brisbane very promptly
- Snorkel was pretty easy to fit, but should probably be mounted a couple of mm higher than the template says
- Had to remove the "Maverick" badge as it was partially obscured by the snorkel (well, didn't HAVE to, but it looked wrong with it on)

Yo,
I will post a pic of the inner part tomorrow - inside the mudguard I mean. Inside the engine bay looks exactly like stock. I mean, it IS exactly stock. The other piece that you can't see is inside the mudguard, and it's not flexible, it's solid.
Now, in case you're wondering where the stock air intake ends up, look at the picture below. It's not really ideal for preventing the ingress of water - in fact, it looks pretty risky to me.
To fit the snorkel you have to remove the metal pickup by drilling out the spot welds (or some other way if you prefer). The replacement piece then runs from the snorkel to the hole in the side of the engine bay.
Instructions were minimalistic but sufficient. The template was also adequate but as I said I think the whole thing might have looked a little better mounted a coupla mm higher.
Cost was just what 4WD Systems advertise in 4WD Monthly every month, $289 plus shipping of around twenty bucks to Brisbane.

You could use something better than the self-tappers they provide. Sealing at both ends should be done with polyurethane ie sikaflex.
Looks messier in the photo than it really is; I wiped sikaflex off my fingers all over the place. At least I didn't get any on my hootus, eh?
There is of course still a plastic cover to go back inside the wheel arch and cover all this up.

Nope, just the plastic cover inside the wheel arch. To remove the stupid scoop thing I drilled out the spot welds from inside the engine bay. Took about ten minutes. Shitty to have a few more holes to paint though.

I figured you would be too worried to do that. I just took to my brothers with a drill when he got all scared 1993 4runner! The snorkels are designed to cover a lot of sins if you get happy with smashing the guard a fair bit

TJM told me I could get one supplied and fitted for "about five hundred" which in TJM terms probably would have meant about $600 when all was said and done.
You do get a moment of anxiety when you're about to start drilling, especially when you're cutting the big hole (3" diameter.)
However, you check everything enough times and you can see that it's going to line up. The hardest thing would actually be to have the right tools - not that many people have a 3" holesaw for steel lying around. I went to Supercheap and bought an air nibbler for $90 instead - at least I know I'll use that again in the future but I seriously doubt I'll need a 3" holesaw very often.
Well, any excuse to buy tools will do anyway.
And as for you HottieMonster - the more you do your own work on your car the happier you'll be.

I will be going to see "daniels custom panels (DCP)" in a couple of weeks.. getting my snorkel today or tomorrow (only cost $160 from ebay brand new!@!#)..
daniel @ DCP helped me with fitting the 34" JT2's to my car.. we had some slight rub problems.. he thought an axe would be good enough to bend up my guards - and yes, it worked
