HELP
the problem i am have is when i turn left or right the steering wheel shakes and a couple of time the hole front end has started shaking vilently to a point the i had to stop all my bushes are ok had the brake disc machined and a wheel alignment the only thing left that i can think of is the damper i was running an OME and can't recall having this problem but it got smashed and the only one i could get at the time was a gabrial.
has anyone else had this sort of problem and could it be the damper
what dampers do people use and recommend

Steering Dampers

how long has the damper been on there? did u manually bleed the damper by slowly running it to each end of its travel by hand before fitting? sounds like the panhard rod bushes (or bolts) may have some slop in them. with ur car running stick ur head out the widow and have a look at the top of the tire and the mudgaurd as u rock the wheel left and right a touch. does the body seem to be moving left and right over the top of the wheel rather than all of the movement being transfered to turning the wheels? (does that make any sense? 
)
u may want to remove the damper and with the damper at its normal length for wheels straight ahead check an inch or so of movement in either direction does it feel consistent or is it jerky and hard to move then easy then hard again? the damper does most of its work at this posistion and they do tend to loose the full damping property in the centre sometimes ( i assume they wear the inner wall of the damper causing fluid to bypass the piston)

Like Rangin Rover mentioned, don't waste time on the expensive ones. The cheaper ones are just as good and you won't cry when you damage it!!
I had a Dobinsion damper on until recently, lasted 2 years and died after it was chock full of mud after some off-roading in Beerwah State forest (QLD). Just bought a Monroe jobbie for about $55 and just as good!!

I had the same prob a couple of weeks ago and when i went searching for the prob it turned out that the nut on the pitman arm was so loose that it took about 10 full turns to tighten it ! I'm glad i found it when i did as it wasnt too far off stuffing the sector shaft splines and could have been fatal if i had my wife and 8 month old daughter on board.
So give the nut a check while under the car.
