Hi I'm using about 20 litres per 100 klms in my 2.4 petrol Bundera - 22r.
I'm not very mechanically minded and I dont have a timing light - can get one if I have too but will need a mate to show me what to do with it
I took my Bundera to a pro for a service and tune and ever since it is slow and labours just to maintain speed on the flat. So I thought I'd have a go at it myself after getting some advice from a mate.
I loosened the distributor and turned it anti clockwise. As i did this the revs picked up more and more until it would turn no longer. No Pinging. I turned down the warm idle screw and went for a drive. It missed and carried on with no power.
I then turned the distributor back a little (clockwise), adjusted the warm idle screw and went for a drive. Heaps of power now - well, as compared to how it was before I touched it.
So I was happy cos I barely had to touch the throttle and she now turns the 35's pretty well.
However, I was expecting better economy and it remained at about 20ltrs. This doesnt sound right to me. Its a 2.4 not a V8???
Any advice in simple terms that doesn't include:
extractors and exhaust replacement.
EFI conversions.
Recoing the motor.
I just want to work with what I got and maximise.
If you are kind enough to offer any advice, please use simple explainations. Thanks

Re: 22r ecomony
Do this because even though you can't here it pinging does not mean that there is no detonation. At the very least I would remove the spark plugs and look for fine black spotting on the white porcelain which is a sign of detonation.bundyrules wrote:I'm not very mechanically minded and I dont have a timing light - can get one if I have too but will need a mate to show me what to do with it
Ben
22r are crap on economy.
My 250 chev in my jag was better.
about 350k to a 60l tank of fuel was about the best i could manage.
ours was on pet/GAs. Then i went to straight gas with a EFI manifold and removed cat convertor, etc. even done an engine change with a fresh
Never got any better, Just more power.
Sucks ass, Get used to it or repower

be careful with playing with timing when you dont know what your doing, as said it probably will be pinging even though you cant notice it much, 20 lites per hundred is good in my opinion turning 35's, they are crap motors that love a drink. i had one, had extractors and exhaust and with the big tyres it hated it. its pretty much flat stick everywhere just to maintain speed. either go gas as it seemed to get 300-350 kms per 60 odd litres of petrol and 240-260 of 60 litres of gas, with minimal power difference. sorry this isnt really a help. short anwser is, economy really isnt appropriate in the same sentence as 22r. especially if you want to do the speed limit.
gq wagon now a gq ute, straight gas tb42 with a thing on the side that makes it go fast
Diff ratios
Droopypete,
The diff ratio's are stock but it didn't seem to make much difference to the economy even when I through a set of 31's on it for a few weeks.
