Maybe they're a bit confused? Perhaps the magazine review of the 4b's should have been called "4Door of the Year"?

Maybe it's a conspiracy to keep the big fourby's recognised as what a 4-wheel drive should look like - rather than a little suzuki / jeep / defender coming out and beating them (heaven forbid).

I'd still like to see the smaller trucks in the same category - obviously you could add something like "passenger room" or "storage space" as a criteria for selecting 4b of the year - but you just know that the jimny would have to beat the others in some areas - "reverse parking" perhaps, or at least "fuel consumption"...

Check out the peterson's 4b of the year, they had the wrangler rubicon, h2 and a stack of big ford trucks and stuff and the 4b of the year ended up going to a lexus or something - that's what i'd like to see - a very open field (one with no solid criteria for becoming 4wd of the year - except for, being a 4wd and having a transfer case).

It's actually a copy of a similar test they did in the UK a while ago...BTW the Zook won.....

While we're at it - 2003 4wd of the year... 2 Jeep cherokee's but no wrangler, 2 Patrols a Landcruiser and a Prado but no Di-D Pajero

and of course no Suzuki's anywhere?

Givwe the fact that one of the Jeeps blew up in a few minutes they couldf have rerun the first test with a Jimny at least.....

Now that I have read this article I think you have to admit that the 4wd monthly team were pretty positive about all three of the cars that they tested in the review.

In fact, I think it would be a fair assumption to say that they had more fun and respect for the three short wheel base cars then they have for most of the cars they run in the 4WDOTY tests...

It definately gave me the impression that the Wrangler would beat a few of the cars in the 4WDOTY runs.

I think that they were evaluating them by the criteria that the vehicles were designed to meet .. They are fun capable offroad vehicles, They took into account initial cost ease of mods etc etc ..

You're right - just like the sierra.

If anything, the biggest gripe that the reviewers had about the car was that it didn't have an LSD / Rear Locker in it - with that you can see that it would do much more.

p.s. I wonder if it might be worth hinting to liz about the wonders of modern medicine and facial hair removal?

Nah...Liam wanted to play in a stocker...so Liz handed over her keys and closed her eyes
They really are quite good offroad and the plastic is reeeeally flexible, you punt a tree and it pops straight back out - not even the paint cracks...and I speak from experience.
...and they even get "Suzuki Sag"...
