LSD VS Locker for FJ40

Post by tukadafoonday »

i am at the moment just about to rebuild my diff after some fun in the water.... expensive fun at about $700!!! and while the diff is going to be out of the car (rear) i may as well beef it up also... i was going to think about putting a locker in the rear lokrite or detroit something of the kiind... tho when i talked to the guy at the diff shop (southern diffs) in canberra he recommeded highly agaisnt it in the short wheel bases as they clunk and bang and carry on... he recommeded to put in a LSD from a 60 or 80's series and then put a locker in the front? what are your opinions on this? the driving i do is most probably about 70% off road to 30% on road.... so on road performance is not all that big a deal for the moment.

cheers.
Fj40 '84, 2F. PWS, 2" extended shackles, detroit rear, soon lockrite front. huge 31" tires :( one day some big mothers!

As has been said many times before (and for good reason I might add ;) )

Save your $$ and invest in an Airlocker :D

They may cost a bit more intially, but you NEVER have to worry about unusual handling characteristics onroad.

LSDs are not all they are cracked up to be in a 'Yota diff - different story in a Nissan ;)

In summary  ARB gets my vote
