Won't Idle

Post by reddo_OMG »

My 85 sierra, with the 8valve SOHC carbie 1.6 vitara motor in it, wont idle. It starts up, rev’s to about 4 grand for 3 seconds or so, and cuts out! It blows white smoke, the 4th cylinder is down on pressure but only a bit, the carbie has been cleaned but could still be the problem….. The oil is a bit milky, and the air filter was filthy…… muddy water signs….. its been sunk! Spark plugs have been changed, compression test done, carbie cleaned a few times, but still won’t idle…..

Can anyone help me!

yeah where the fuel line comes onto the carby there is a banjo bolt take this off carefully as it should have two copper washers one on either side and in the bolt is a little strainer filter pick it out and throw it away.
they are only going to be a hassle for you if you keep it.

also is your fuel pump working???
ELECTRIC OR MECHANICAL?

Have you just installed this motor?
If yes there is a idle solinoide on the carb that needs power to let it idle.
