TD42 Turbo top mount intercooler

Post by rumpig89 »

Gday.

A Gympie LWB. Looking at gettin a 88 Maverick TD42 with Safari Turbo and top mount intercooler. Done around 350 000. From what ive seen it seems to be in pretty good condition. No rust to be found.

3" Suspension Lift
2" Body Lift

Interior is alright condition. Centre outback console running from front to back. Is missing LHS air conditioning vent - is this simple to replace/find one??

Test drove last weekend. Seems to run well. Plenty of power - running 8lb.

The owner is after $9000 sharp. RWC.

does that seem alright?? money wise, quality of vehicle??

Also anything that you think i should look for when i go have a closer look / make a decision. Things that may have/be about to go wrong??

I think you should keep looking around abit, depending on your budget you should be able to find a LWB TD42 with lockers, winch & suspension mods for around 10-12grand

a mate of mine sold his LWB with a highmount, front locker, TD42 with denco turbo kit, and suspension & body lift for 11 grand all up..

start it up and take the engine oil cap off if you havent.. if nothing is coming out and you can rest the cap over the hole buy it..

if it isnt dont bother.. take the 7k off it for a rebuild..

was bought 'as is' had some minor rust under the drivers feet, and 2 cracks in the floor where the middle row seat clips in.
engine seems good. i'm yet to rego it, (waiting for my XR6 to sell)
it also needs new tyres. aside from that a good clean out and a good service is all it realy needed.

yeah mate just start her up let her idle no a/c or fan on.. take the oil cap off.. you can rest the oil cap on the hole it it just jiggles around a bit on its it ok.. if it blows 6 foot in the air just run..

blow by in the engine means atleast 1500 - 7000 in engine repairs (depending on how good you are)

you can also pull the dipstick out a bit.. and check for smoke.. but do both..

i bought a 4.2d without knowing this and am now paying the price..
