Whats your honest economy figures ?
Just curious as to what economy figures people are getting out of there engines after they have done a bit of work to there rigs.
The reason i ask is, i once had a 84 model Lux 2Litre petrol with 4 inch lift 35's and barwork and compared to my new rig with a very similar set up it was heaps cheaper to run.
I have a mate with the 3 litre turbo diesel who claims to get really good economy figures.
Just wondering if there is any engine that stands out from the crowd as the diesel prices are getting close to the $2.00 mark in the NT.
Cheers !

i have an 80 series 4.5L petrol, last weekend 4wding, with 35's, I got 135km's from 90L of LPG, and that wasn't driving it hard.
On road i get about 200km's. On petrol it is not much better.

eeeek. i think you need to get your cruiser looked at. I'm getting about 400km around town on 95L LPG, and the installer reckons we can get it running better again. I'm running LPG injection, but even mates with similar 80's running venturi systems are getting 350km around town to 410km highway on 90L gas.killalux wrote:i have an 80 series 4.5L petrol, last weekend 4wding, with 35's, I got 135km's from 90L of LPG, and that wasn't driving it hard.

My 97 model 80s cruiser is running auto, 4 inch lift, 33's, arb bar with highmount winch. On petrol i will get 15-16l/100km highway and about 22l/100km around town.

even if it bumps up to 30L/100 (which going on Carts's measurements is achievable), your still paying less than 1/2 price per litre. $20 per 100 vs $31 per hundred going on Adelaide prices atm.
Spit my last breath
My rig is a Factory Turbo Diesel GXL 80 series running 285/75/16 BFG Muddies and it consistently use 13 litres per 100 kms. I have the boost wound up just a smidge to 11.5 lbs and the fuel cranked up a bit, a 3 inch mandrel bent pipe. No black smoke but 142 rear wheel HP running the same tyres (well that's on Chapman Auto's Dyno and from my postings on the Nissan Page re TB42 power figures, there seems to be some thoughts the dyno might be reading a little high). Either way it performs well enough.
When towing my dual axle Caravan it gets as high as 15.5 litres per 100 kms however I don't drive like miss Daisy either

Im here for the sausage!
ive got a 1hz 80 series. on 31s. winch etc but not much other gear. gets about 11litres/100kms.
my old 2f 40 series on 35s used about 20 litres/100kms.
and my new Fj40 on 42s with a 304 injected holden V8 has really only been used to move it around the yard, and on 2 courses at tufftruck. but it is using about 4litres per km so far.
but im hoping it will improve on a proper drive.

gas would b good but i dont have a spare $3300 for the install its self
and yes i know about the rebate
a 1hz sounds the way to go
still a cash problem atm
still think i could do better on fuel tho
cheers steve
there are cheaper ways to do it. a second hand kit off of another 80, and some gas places will test it and certify it still.scuba steve 22 wrote:bad_religion_au wrote:LPG?scuba steve 22 wrote:im getting about 25/100

if you think the 3300 for a gas kit is steep, then a 1hz conversion is going to be steeper. and with diesel prices going the way they are, still not save you money.
