pulling/hesitation during accelerating???

Post by islandvitara »

tiz me again :D

my vitara has a bad pulling/hesitation on accelerating, i got used to it since its been happening for 4months now but tonight it back fired or made a loud poping noise on accelerating while it was hesitating!!! sounds dumb but its as though the brakes are applied lightly for a short moment then ease off but they're not. it only happens on flat ground and going uphill and going up hill is when its worse it lasts nearly all the way until pretty flat ground then it seems to go away....

happens in 1st 2nd 3rd and 4th sometimes....WTF :?

the poping noise sounded like it came from the left side of the engine??? but not 100% sure..

i cant hear any grinding noises (besides wheel bearing on left hub - needs to be replaced asap) like brakes or anything it just feels like brakes are being applied while accelerating uphill and on flat ground...

anyone come across this? even heard of it??

Diagnosing these sorts of problems isn't easy mate.....
At a guess I'd say the mixture is rich and the timing is out.
Get a professional tune up and it'll be sweet.

Might pay to do all the basics, plugs, leads, fuel filter, air filter, check for vacuum leaks in intake, etc.... If you are unsure then fork out the money to have somone who knows do it for you.

The back fire was probably cos you fiddled with the timing and now it is way out. Get it timed properly. Once you get all the basics right you may find all the other problems will go away too.

Do the Vits have MAP or air flow sensor?
