What tyre pressure and shock settings for heavy load?

Post by e32 »

Gday

I am heading up north (from melb to qld) on saturday, with a full car (2 dritbikes, 4 people 2 massive guitar amps and heaps of other luggage), My hilux has adjustable ranch shocks, what setting should i put it on for the journey? Also what tyre pressure approximately would b good??

Also when i get there it is mainly clay roads what tyre pressure and shock settings would be good 4 this as well as easy to moderate 4wd'ing?

My car should b done just in time, i got it cheap, but the originaly 304 was not working, chucked in a mildly worked reconditioned clubie motor, should go hard. It could do wheel stands when it had the SS motor should be able to do the fatest ones ever now!!

Cheers,
Thanjks for your advice guys

steel or alloy tray?
what year lux?

so ~100kilos of amps, 400kilo's of people, 300kilos of bikes, heaps of other luggage... you're over your payload ;)

what tyres are you running? going by those loads, 42psi rear, 40 front... drop or add a couple of pounds to suit
LT construction tyres would definately be better than passenger car tyres for the loads

put the shocks on 8 or 9, it will be harsh, but you will need handling more than comfort

when you get there...you said you will be doing clay roads... will this still have the loads on the tray? watch your speeds if still loaded, stick below 50 and be-aware of load shifting and potholes

I honestly think you'll struggle to fit that much shit onto a d/c hilux! Good luck though!

ah ok,
you will probably have issues with the 35" muddies up here if you do anything stupid near the cops, don't draw attention to yourself, they are illegal here no matter what 4wd they are on, and the major crackdown laws are about to come into affect - 1st strike, go to court, 2nd strike, idunno, 3rd strike, crushing time
