OIL BRAND FOR TD42?? HELP PLEASE

hey d00ds, i'm about to do an oil change in the GQ diesel for the 1st time. Just wondering whether Castrol or Penrite would be the way to go? If not any other brands that work well with this motor??? All help appreciated. :D :D
96 GQ LWB, Rd28T, nothing exciting, but CLEAAAAAN. 2" Kings flexy's, long shocks, custom dump, 3" zorst, fuel screw meddled with.

I think you will find any brand diesel engine oil will work fine.

i use penrite and never had any issues
THE GRASS MAY BE GREENER ON THE OTHER SIDE BUT YOU STILL GOTTA MOW IT.

penrite HPR diesel for the TD42.
buy it in the 20 litre drums, you get 2 changes out of the 1 drum if you dont spill any ;)
97 GQ patrol coilcab. TD42, safari turbo kit with fiddled turbo, D-GAS kit. dyno results to come...
4inch lift, king springs, efs and procomp shocks
315/70R16 cooper ST's
found fuel economy...

I found Caltex Delo400 to be the cheapest at $85 for a 20L drum.

Currently running on Shell Rimula X which is a much more expensive oil.

Absolutely no difference.

I dare say it will be a similar story for every other TD42 out there.

mate, if you want a good ( best) engine oil for your truck,
you cannot go past mobil delvac

you can also use it in petrol engines, its aswsome stuff.

Everyone will say their favourite brands, but the most important thing is to stick to a good quality 15w-40 diesel oil e.g Rimula X, RX super, Fuchs Ultralube etc and change it regularly (5000km on indirect injected diesel). I personally think oil like Penrite HPR Diesel 20w-60 is way to thick, i used it in my old Toyota 2H and the oil pressure was sky high!!

10L? Either you're not filling the sump right up or you've got sludge. :P

My 93 swallows around 12L each time.

mines a 97 ute.
takes over 10, but not by far, if you run it to the lower mark on the dipstick you can get 2 changes...
wouldnt be surprised if i do have a bit of sludge.

its a TD42, id be surprised if any dont have sludge ;)

i might wack my oil pressure gauge on and see what pressure im getting.

I am using Castrol RX Super

I have tried GTX Diesel, Rimula X and god help me Magnatec Diesel.

Yes i was new to Diesel so i didn't know what to use, i now use RX super.

Plus don't touch Valvoline Oil filters, compared to the Ryco ones i normally use, the oil light takes 3 times as long to go out

I used and have for the past 8 years or so in my patrol uteTD42 Castrol GTX Diesel. I change my oil filters and the oil every 5000km. The TD4.2 is an unsophisticated engine so wasting money on it with hightech oils is not worth it IMHO. Just change the oil/filters regulary mate.
