Low oil presuure in 80 series? (only at idle) anyone else?

When at idle the oil pressure guage sits on the low mark.
It sits about three qurters of the way up to the high level during normal driving and will stay there for a little while when dropped back to idle but after about 20 seconds drops to the low mark.

Is this common? Should I be worried?

4by is a 95 petrol 80 series with 150,000km on the clock and I run castrol magnetec which is a 10/40 oil.

Has only started doing this recently.

check ur oil level, mine sits just under half at idle and when moving sits nearly all way to top

Could be a few things best bet would be get it checked at the block with screw in type gauge and see if it's within spec i know my 1HDT sits on the low line at idle but gauge reads 22psi.

My hilux did exactly the same after replacing the sender unit but has never caused a problem.

checked oil level and it is ok.
Oil type is however 10/40 not 15/40 as i first stated.

1 of our 60's with a 12h-t dose that and its only just had a complete rebuild. i dont think you have anythinh to worrie about

if u put a mechanical guage on it, it will show between 20-30psi i think i hate the standard guages get a t piece for the screw in sender unit and put a mechanical guage off it make sure u take the sender unit in tho cause the thred if tapered

new sender uiit is the answer usually, just stop taking notice of it, mine is always at the l for blowup mark..

I had a similar problem with mine. Turned out it was simply a case of being low. The dipstick is a real pain to read correctly on mine when low because it seems to drag up oil over the grid pattern neatly even when still / switched off for a bit. So I just measured out separately 7.3-4l (with filter change) and plonked it in and never got another problem.

New oil will be a little thicker which will make it read higher aswell
