3G is no good - you need Next G (only Tesltra at present) and an external CDMA antenna (not the pissy little ones - the big ones you mount on bull bar style).

BTW - Kevvy is setting up Kitchen today and the showers are working and the Grog has arrived

Hi Celia, Tim is racing with his son Tom, team name SA Racing. I will be racing for the first time with my son Trent. Both Trent and Tom have never been part of a team in an event or nav before. So we are doing a bit on father and son bonding. Hoping your not missing the action after your retirement. Thanks for cheers. Gary

Hey Gary

How cool is that, not many father son teams to date...I think Barry Packer & Brian (Justa) had their son's in the Alphine C...Max's Kent has also competed with him in the beginning.........how special for u guys and have the best time together...
Tim make sure that Rangie gets u thru the week ;)

OK - only hours to go before the first 2 stages. A night Navigation and a Night winch.

The teams are practicing in the creek below camp and there is a lot of WOW factor out there. Ian Paltrige's supercharged 6 litre sounds the goods and if he can hold it together will be a force to be reckoned with. Spectators are already getting their fill just with warm up sessions.

Smithi has already blown and fixed a front diff.

3 teams not yet arrived - running late and risk missing tonights starting times. DOH!

SS1 (20min DNF) One navigation point with teams having to navigate through the scrub to get to the waypoint and then having a winch up the famous White Cliffs to the finsh box.

Car 4 – one of the quickest times of the field
Car 12 – Snapped rope on winch wall, picked up a couple of winching penalties
Car 2 – DNF with Dead Winch
Car 16 – Engine dramas with misfiring
Car 18 – DNF with suspected lost front drive
Car 43 – Main winch dramas, so resorted to backup winch with success.

Many teams didn’t suspect a winch when it started off as a navigation stage and many navi’s caught out without gloves on.

SS2 (30min DNF) 6 navigator plots in a paddock.

Car 59 – 120km/h into a ditch, nosediving vehicle and rolling end over twice(everyone ok)
Car8 – Nosedive into an embankment (everyone ok)

Few teams had dramas picking up satellite signal resulting in frustration.

More updates to follow tomorrow.
