I have a 180 amp pirahna solenoid that i will be putting in my new car. I dropped into their shop the other day and asked a few questions about system, including whether it was possible to link batteries through their solenoid alah several other systems available on the market. They straight out said no, however i have read and heard it being done through various channels, both commercial print and on the web.

So, are people doing this simply running another lead between batteries with a big constant duty solenoid and switching this on whilst switching off the pirahna isolator... or is there an easier method.

I dont want this to turn into a pissing contest about different types of isolators either please. I have also searched, but if i missed a thread please correct me.

or is there an easier method.

mount the solenoid inside the nearest dumpster.

wouldn'tit just be a case of connecting the third batt to the aux batt it'd will take longer to charge up but would still charge them both up.

also thissystem overheats or something :? , the reason for the other replies.

Not sure exactly what the problem is, but i've seen a number of them turn the internals to crap; i.e. charcoal (and heard plenty of similar stories).

you can buy a 500 amp continuos duty silver contact solenoid from a auto elec for about 50 bucks and connect asmany batteries as you like, also been winching useing it on the second battery for five years no probs

Yes that is possible... but not what im aiming to do... be able to draw power off the second battery through the solenoid for a big winch etc.
