Longest Shocks

Post by Pixie-LWBZOOK »

Hi all, am in the process of doing my suspension build, and have come to the stage where i need to find some decent shocks.

just wondering if anyone could advise me on what the longest Eye-Pin shock absorbers, that are valved sort of correctly for a LWB zook.

(I will have extended shock towers etc.)

thanks, pixie

If your making custom towers, by not make eye eye one and use N76 omes or similar ?

if u know what length you want and how long the shock head can be before it botoms out then just go flick through some shock books for a while. a shock can only go down as much as it go up.

You really haven't provided enough information to assist us or yourself.

The longest shock that will fit in you car is the one that's closest to the daylight measurement between your shock mounts +1". Ramp the car and take the measurement, there's your answer.

On the information you've provided, you need Rancho 99036's with a pin/eye adapter. These have 15" of travel.... but they'd be about 22" long compressed with the adapter, so longer than a standard sierra shock fully extended, which they're compressed.

If you must have an eye/pin shock, try a Rancho 99009... but they're very very, very soft. They have about 10.75" of travel from memory. I have them in the back of my Gwagen. (they're much too soft for this application though)

I'm a big fan of N76's though - yes, they are eye/eye, but they are a useful length, they soft valved but seem fine on sierras, and they're much cheaper than overrated, overpriced Ranchos.

I'll say it again, just because Rancho make lots of shocks doesn't mean they make one for your application.

I am a Newbie when it comes to Zooks but there is some 12 way adjustable shocks coming out in the next 6 weeks with the right ends on them. The longest one is 800mm extended. It is a 41mm bore so a bit bigger then Ranchos. Lots of improvements over Ranchos and for about the same price.

Okay I know that pixieLWB is in the process of installing a calmini 5 inch lift, but didn't recieve some parts which is maybe why they want to purchase different shocks than what comes with the kit. But seriously the shocks that I got with my kit work very well with it, they are the perfect length with the bump stop extensions fitted . They are juuuuuust shy of fully closed when hard on the bump stops and do not limit droop at all.

However, you mention extended shock towers pixie, so maybe you plan to modify the calmini kit somehow for more flex? But I doubt you will get any more down travel out of it than I have so I don't really see the point in extended towers (unless going with whacky shackles).

BINGO, on pretty much every level.

hoping to get away with not using bump stop extensions, hence extended shock towers.

also part of the reason for shackle reversal was so that i can go wacky shackles (in the near future) without it being terribly noticeable, to non 4x4ers

and, yeah, still waiting on parts, thus why it hasn't been ramped up yet.

What size tyres do you plan on running? on the extended bumpstops my front springs are flat so I hope you don't ruin your springs with no bumpstop extensions. Also Calmini do not cover anything under warranty if the bumpstop extensions are not used. I sure do hope you know what you're doing.
