When mounting a top mount which is the best method.
a) mount to the engine and have enough flexable seal on the scoop to take up the engine movement
b) mount to the body and have the silicon connections absorb the engine movement.
Will be on a TD42 with original Nissan scoop.

The factory GU intercoolers are mounted to rails mounted the the body.Gwagensteve wrote:I think A is the best solution, and the one used in eveything I've seen with a factory top mount.

If it was direct mounted (via rubber) to the motor, the could be quite a lot of movment of the intercooler as the motor twists under acceleration. Particulary in off road rocky situations.
If it is mounted to the body some how, like in the GU's, the intercooler would move in conjuntion with the bonnet and be less movement for the rubber seal to deal with.
