Spare wheel carrier and 35" tyre

Hey guys, anyone had a bright idea that works for the spare wheel mount on back door and 35" tyre. I don't want to smash my RH tail light when opening the door plus left door just catches on tyre. (Have put this up on Patrol forum as well but not too many replies coming thru).

ARB or Kaymar sell a spacer to go between the rear door and the wheel mount.

I welded up a spacer out of RHS and angle. Spaced the tyre out about 30mm to clear the left door and incorporated a light mount at the same time.

Cost me about $20 in steel and a bit of time stuffing around.

ARB sell the spacer for the back door for about $50.

Kaymar robbers want about $100 for it (same thing but has an extra small loop on it for fitting one of their equally overpriced rear worklights)

Dunno if they help clear the tail light, but they lift it up and out a bit.

I run 315's on my GU and just put the spare on back to front on the standard carrier.

I just put washers as spacers on the 2 left bolts. Gives enough clearance to open the left door without moving the tyre to the right.
I have run mine this way for 6 years with out breaking the tail light (I am careful on hills) while running 35x12.5r15 cooper stt on cruiser off-set rim.

But I cant get the back door open with a simex 35x10.5 15 ET :x
Need to get a wheel carrier!!

I had one of these I got off Brighton ARB.
They are a really well made item, and you can also use them to bolt a spotlight pole onto. Worth it.

is it asking a bit much for a rear door to have a 35 inch tyre hanging off it all of the time???

and sorry not quite following what happens to smash the taillight?

bigger tire less space once th door is open between tire and lens... when you open the door the bigger tire moves close to the lens and goes WHAM SMASH when the door opens right up.

Yeah apparently. Think mine will be ok as I use 31's on it as a daily driver so it'll only carry the 35" spare when i have changed tyres for playing.

I have had my 35 hanging off the rear door for 6 years now full time. Hinges ok at this stage, but is prob not good for it.
I never leave the door open for more that 5 minutes at a time, so the catch takes a lot of the weight most of the time.
My car is also only used for local victoria trips, so has never done bad corrigations for days on end.

reason i asked is i just recently brought a maverick with 33 on the back - will be running 35's and was working out whether i would need to build a tyre rack or stick with the factory setup...

I am running a brand new 35 on the rear door and I just got the die grinder out and enlarged the hole on the bracket to move it away and I can open the small door without it hitting although the can't open the big door all the way as it hit the top of the tail light/body panel. Just have to be careful when opening it. Seems all good so far.

Just do what i do, only cary a spare when you go away. Before you ask, when im driving around town im never more than 100km from home so just join racv total care and if you get a flat with no spare tyre they put the car on a tow truck and get it home for you, where you then get your spare out of the garage and fit it. I only fit my spare when im going away!!!! (you just have to know how to abuse the system) probablly helps when you work for the racv.

Even with a spacer the 35 will still hit the light. Mine does and Ive got a 30mm spacer. But thats mainly for the telescopic worklight pole I made.
You need to put a stopper on the guide on the lower hinge, on the inside of the barn door so it only pulls open so far.
I drilled a hole and put a 5mm sellock pin in it where I wanted the door to stop.
