Attaching plasma rope

When changing from wire to plasma is there a particular method to attach the plasma, can you get some kind of lug fitted to the rope or is there another way.

Looks like a good deal, so do I just go back to the rope supplier (Nobles) and get them to fit the lug?

Or should a 4WD shop be able to do it?

better still goto any car place or an auto elec and just get a batt lead teminal thats the right size. Push end of rope into it and belt with hammer.
Then attach to winch drum as per the steel cable that was on there.

A lug crimper would be better, not quite so agricultural.

Another more solid option than "bashing it" into a battery terminal is to make up something like this:



its pretty much a single chain link with a small washer welded onto it to take the allen head bolt that bolts into the drum. Pull about 6-7inchs of rope through the link and then open up the braids carefully with something that isn't going to cut the fibre and pass the tag end through the centre of the main line.

Once you've done this bolt it into the drum and take the tag end and run it parallel to the drum and tape it down with gaffa.

This was the manufacturers (www.winchline.com) method in the instruction manual. I feel under load on the last few layers it would be stronger than a crimp terminal only.

That little bolt doesn't hold it on very well - it's tension on the drum that keeps it from moving.

I use masterpull on my 8274, I use a double clove hitch on the drum then thread it through the drum hole and tie a knot in the end. I just took the rope off a couple of days ago to lengthen the drum and use a 1.5 inch steel tube to replace the 3 inch drum - the knot hadn't even pulled tight to the drum so there was no movement fron the clove hitches.

yeah nice work man thats sounds pretty bomb proof...my low mount doesn't have a hole through the drum but I like the clove hitch idea in my case to isolate any tension at all reaching the little allen key bolt...nice one

i have done what was posted earlier with the winchline rope and must say it seems very strong
