Have one and wouldn`t swap it for anything
The worst thing about them is the amount of fuel they use
We put ours on gas and its now half theprice to run

Shop around for one allready on gas, you will not regret it :D

from my experience, around town, you would be looking at between 4-6L per 100km worse off than the manual, but on the highway, you can get about 1-2L/100km better than the manual.

At 110km, the auto sits at about 2200rpm (in OD), whereas the manual sits at about 2750rpm (in 5th)

If you are running gas, then who cares. The auto is awesome offroad. The A442F auto is a very strong gearbox, and will be almost guaranteed to outlive its manual counterpart, but it is a place where power goes to die. Although, the manual is not exactly a sports car gear box.
If you want a spare 60 for bits-

I have owned 2 auto 80's and they outperform the manuals in the bush hands down...plenty of power...just downhill they suffer....price of fuel is the reason they are cheap, plus there are so many needing a new loving home....i sold my 94 200km petrol auto for 6800 needing tyres and rego in a few weeks, it had mags and was tidy...buy one on petrol, put it on gas and you start fresh off with warrenty and a 2k rebate...
