Using 2 stroke as a 'limp' mode

I've been slowly accumulating bits and pieces to leave in my car to allow for bush repairs while i am wheeling. Usual stuff like tool roll, fluids, spare radiator cap, light bulbs, oem bolts etc etc.

I have two 1lt oil containers stacked neatly in the gap between the headlights/wheel/arch and fender 'just in case'

then only today i thought well if the oilpump goes it ain't much help.

Could i use two stroke oil in this situation ?

I figured i could pop the rocker off, plug the drain holes and bath the head in motor oil and rely on the 2 stroke mix to lube the pistons.

Would this be effective for say 100kms?

DEFINATELY NOT.
2 strokes suck fuel and air from carby through the crankcase (to lube all the uppy downy roundy roundy bits)and then past the reeds into the combustion chamber whereas a 4 stroke bypasses the crankcase and goes straight from carby to combustion chamber.
All adding 2 stroke oil will do (if oil pump stops) is make it blow clouds of smoke until it seizes.

If you plan on doing a desert crossing and repairs in sandy areas then I'd buy one of those green microfibre tarps that the army use. They let sand fall through them but not come up through.
I think there was an add for them in 4wd monthly last month???

PS: I don't think oil pumps are a common failing on G13's. I've never heard of one failing and killing an engine.

i don't think they would fail either, i'm putting in a fresh engine before doing the nullabor thing next year

I'm sure I've seen electric oil pumps for sale somewhere before. If you get an oil filter adapter kit to fit an oil pressure gauge or filter relocation you might be able to hook one up through the hoses as a temporary fix when needed.

thats a cool idea, but i get the impersion thast if the pumps stuffed it will not suck through it. i suppose you could run a pipe down the dipstick and feed it into the nescesary end of the sandwich plate?

Dunno really, what type of pump is the oil pump? A centrifugal pump like a water pump will allow flow thoguh it.
