boat motor question!

Post by familybus »

ok its not 4x4 but it does get towed by one!
:D

ive got a @ 2004 15hp Yamaha 2 stroke outboard and the fuel i used yesterday is around 6 months old, it ran like a pig and seem to be runnin like the choke was stuck on but it wasnt, it started fine and everything but could seem to get it to cut loose, like it was holding back or something, would it have been cause the feul was crap or maybe a combo of bad feul and spark plug perhaps or am i lookin at a bigger prob?

thanks in advance Harv

The fuel has a short shelf life once the oil is added. Dump it and put new fuel in and you should be ok.

fuel is bad.

unleaded fuel goes to the crap very quickly.

empty refill and restart, order shall return...

Best drain the carby and clean out your fuel tank, line etc and clean the plug. Best not to let two stroke fuel sit for too long and do not use E10 and two stroke oil. Give it a run on the hose before taking it out again. cheers

my yami is doing the same thing. it cleared up a bit with new plugs and fuel but still wont open up. it's like it's being restricted.

i just ran out of good days over summer to care to fix it and put it on the to do list.

Did you blow the main jet in the carby out dan? Wouldn't hurt to check how strong the spark is either. If the magneto has a big gap the spark will be average.

yeah, cleaned it out good. it made it start heaps better but didn't help up higher in the rev range where the problem is.
i'm pretty sure it's an ignition prob but sort of got the cbf's with it.

I believe that the ethanol breaks down the oil. No lube = big bang and alot of paddling. Mates 90 Yamaha did this last month. 140hp 4-stroke going in shortly.
