Hey guys, jus after a bit of advice, i Currently own a 98 GU 4500 wagon a 93 GQ TI 4.2 EFI Auto, and a 98 GQ Turbo Diesel ute, the GU and GQ ute both have ARB's F and R. Having recently recieved a work car i have to get rid of something, i don't know which one to keep and build up furthur
Already have 4" coils, tough dogs, dropboxes, all the superior control arms, drag links, tie rods and panhards, 24v high mount and altenator, plus winch bar and sliders to suit GQ. Which one am i best off keeping and modding furthur. Have entered in CQ offroad the last 2 years and am hoping to get a vehicle with a cage to have a run in the the Xtreme class in the XWC's next year. any mods will be performed by myself as am a Fitter and Turner and very competent Welder and have access to a fairly comrehensive workshop.

Build my GU or GQ
Build the GQ ute. GU's are just fat over weight POS. Also the ute already has bugger all panels to dint. It that or turn the GQ wagon into an extra cab. So there is more room. As a GQ ute cab with a roll cage isnt real roomy.
And the 4.2efi would lend itself to going really fast if it got turbo'd.

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY....
I would extra cab the GQ wagon, turbo it and fit all the bar and sliders to it. Aside from the turbo you have basicly everything else to build it. I would sell the GU and tow with the ute.
Gu's are fat in the middle, take a tape measure and compare the 2 cabs and you will see what I mean. Remember you have to get the cab through the gap/holes at the end of the day.
Other option, fit a LS2 to the GQ wagon, light, good power and rev well. Price turbo to LS2 and see how they compare, you may be supprised.

would it be worth swapping the diffs out of the Gu into one of the GQ's, would it pose any problems getting a roadworthy on the GU when running GQ diffs, they're the same ratio's 4.11 so that wouldn't make a difference, hadn't thought of the width difference factor. Not sure how i'd go for room with putting a cage in the ute, it's the full bubble cab, but i can't get the seat back far enough as it is to be comfortablelet alone with a cage. anyone know someone near mackay who builds or bends up quality cages, can weld/fit one myself jus don't have access to a mandrel bender, and the pipework i've had bent at the local muffler shops has been less than impressive???
you could swap the gu to gq diffs but it would affect resale if the buyer knows what there looking at. I would look towards selling the GU as is and get some Cal Offroad CV's for the GQ diffs.
I have driven GQ utes with cages and found my head hits the cage without wearing a helmet, I'm only 5'10". I have a coil cab also and find it is atleast 3" to short in the cab to drive comfortabely.

Do the ute , they have no panels to smash , swap the complete diffs from the GU and then sell it you need the steering arms from th gu to as they are different lengths . The average joe can't tell the difference in the diffs to look at on the car so you'll sell it no probs .
