Turbo Prices

Post by 98lux »

After a lot of searching (yes i used the search function and reading nearly all posts) i rang around to find some prices, and this is what i came up with.

All kits are for a HZJ105 ( 1hz)

Turbo-glide $2890 inc 2.5” exhaust (Garrett GT28) + Fitting

Turbo-glide (eBay) $2650 inc 2.5” exhaust (Garrett GT28) + Fitting

4WDsystems $2623 + $490 2.5” exhaust (oil cooled Schweitzer or TD05 water cooled) + Fitting

AXT (55960668) $3650 + $950 3.0” exhaust (Garrett) Fitted

DTS (border diesel) $3505 +??? Exhaust (TD05) ($2900 not fitted)

Denco 07 33753755 $3900 Inc exhaust and fitting

APS (safari) $3980 +??? Exhaust and Fitting

Some take sump of and others punch the hole and and one drills a 10 mm hole and not even change the oil (the filter will pick it up  )

Some use the factory exahuast manifold and the rest just supply the front section, I was told the factory manifold is better as it has gates in side so it directs the gasses into the turbo better.

Fitted is drive in drive out, i could fit it myself and then take it to a shop and get them to tune it, would the saving in the instulation by myself be worth it.

What are your thoughts on all the above.

Possibly a chance of a complete engine rebuild if their warranty covers it... ;)

I'd be checking to see if the prices you've been quoted include tuning or not. When i was chasing around, not all of them offered/included it.

I'd be going with a sump - off installation (and possibly bronzing) as its a fairly critical part of the system.

The turboglide kits seem to be pretty popular and great value too. I'm sure PGS and dzltec will pipe up about the quotes you've picked up.

I would find out if the people that fit them have a chassis dyno to set it up and show before and after figures. If not ask how much to do it. Prices quoted are fair, there are extras that can and should be looked at to do it right the first time. Basic engine tuning, injectors, filters etc all play in how well it performs, these wont be in any quote.

My thoughts from personal experience, I went with the AXT system. Got it fitted at the headquarters in Cheltenham (Melbourne). If I had a question pre-purchase, or have a question now (after year and a half) I get a clear answer with just a phone call. I got before and after dyno reports with the expected increase in kw and torque. Yes, the oil drain was a punch in the sump job, but they change the oil and coolant, they fit proper pipes everywhere, the job looks neat and works well.

Only thing I would suggest, is don't get an off the shelf exhaust system, try to get it custom made and it wont rattle anywhere. I had to get it altered slightly to stop it hitting in places. Other than that no complaints.

Is the punch in the sump jobby effective? Leaks?

Saves undoing a million small bolts to remove the sump .

Thanks for heads up.

I'd rather remove sump and weld in a nut.. if your going to all that effort, then do it right. sump aint that hard to remove.

I had the AXT system (wouldnt again) and the sump plug never leaked. They also apply a glue/sealant of some sort.

No probs whatsoever. Its important that they change the oil and filter immediately so any particles will be only in the sump region. Removing the sump can cause problems getting it to seal again, a friend had problems with a 1fze when he needed the harmonic balancer done.
But one day it will probably need to be opened so I can get the bearings done(nothings wrong, just a precaution) ;) When they open it up for that, we'll take a look and if it needs altering, it can be done then.

Can I ask what happened to make you not want one of their systems again? Was it installation related or a problem with the parts?

I found for what I was after the standard turbo didnt suit me. It made boost to high up and also I had a few problems with AXT. I thought the fitment was done by them but they sent the vehicle out to somewhere in Dandy, had to go back several times to be retuned, exhaust dump pipe hit the fire wall which they wouldnt fix and had to take it to an exhaust shop.

Ended taking it to JPC and they changed the exhaust housing and a few minor things. After that it went well but did come at an extra cost.

This may be an isolated case but if I had to choose a turbo system again I would spend a few extra dollars and have a custom job done.

BTW
I still have the JPC exhaust housing to suit the AXT IHZ kit which lowers the boost in the rev range, just remove the old and bolt this on. Much better performance low down. If anyone is interetsed I am happy to sell it.
