Get a VQ25DD from a importer.

The VQ series motor's are up there as the best V6's in the world.

Does it have to be a V6 and is 2.6 litres the absolute max?

You are not looking at an easy road here imho, a lot of V6 engines that small are going to be for FWD, and I can't think of any that would be likely to be an easy bolt-on to the hilux gear.

I would personally look into a Mondeo V6, because I know that overseas they are used in a LOT of engine swaps even though they aren't that common here. So if you can't get bits here can probably get bits from the States.

Also used in some Mazdas. Makes good power for a 2.5 litre V6 and once you're registered you could probably sneak in bits from the 3.0 litre version as well. I know it was used in SOME rear-wheel drives too.

Toyota did have a 2.5L V6 in the SV21 Camry (late '80s, before the widebody model) I think was a destroked/debored version of the 3.0L V6 used in early 4 Runners of that vintage.
If it used the same block it would hopefully bolt up to that vintage Hilux 'box.

Why does it have to be a V6? Why not just go with a larger 4cyl Toyota motor?

There might not be a useful "bigger" 4cyl toyota motor - the 3RZ is too big (2.7) and the 22R is too old/ not efi etc.

Chatto, I assume you are dealing with Besty's old rig no? It's a 93 or something? You'll need to match that year, which could be a problem with the only other toyota motor I could think of - the 2.5 V6 in the narrow body (88-92) V6 camry. This could be set up in 4WD trim I guess (manifolds/sump etc) and hooked up to a hilux gearbox, as mentioned by Pharb.

There are other options like the GV motor, mazda 626 motors etc, but by the time the motor was set up in the car, wired, an auto built/adapted...

Seriously though, have you got everything else OK'ed by an engineer? chasing a wierd motor combo might only work if that was the only thing you had to do. If not, (like if you had to rework chassis mounts etc) I think I'd just let it go.

Your'e going to have a lot of $$ in this - getting it all to hang together will be a fair challenge. Not being negative, but I'm still going to say you're better to offload it now rather than try and sell an unfinished project in 12 months when it can't be easily reregistered in vic.

Isn't that a corona avante - these are 1987 at the newest so they'd be too old.

The feroza in question is a '92. There's going to be more engineering headaches trying to run an earlier than 1992 motor (I'm pretty sure the VG20's are older than 1992?) especially a motor that was never sold here new so no-one will have ADR emisisons information on them.

That's if you want to look at Hilux engines only. The 4Y and 22R are not the only 2.4L 4cyl that Toyota have built. For example pre 98 Hiaces had a 2RZ in them, 98-05 had a 2RZ-E.

The Hiace engines sound like a possibility.

We haven't heard much from the original poster on this though.

I didn't know the 2rz was used in Aus Hiaces. That would be a good motor - should be relatively easy to adapt to the (existing) hilux transfer.

yeh just thinking geting ideas dont know if I wont to spend mutch money on it.the thing is befor I bought the froza I rang qld transport to inquire on what to do and they said there is a thing called a receprocol registration, that is if a car has been rego,d in another state its very likely to get it rego,d here. But they say you have to own the thing in the first place. so I rang an engineer and he told me the same thing, so I bought it sent in every thing that I had on it, but becouse I didnt have all the paper work like mesurements and sutch they said I would have to get it engineered again, but the engieer I spoke to who is a qld blue plater said you can only put a2.6 motor in it thats by the book,so he will not do it.now if I pay to have a engineer to do it and they decide to nock me back im f*&*cked. IN saying that if it wasent for them saying theres a big chance in geting it rego,d up here with this receprocol rego I would not have bought the froza. so I dont no. I dont have a lot of money to play with, bugger qld transport its there falt maybe idont no

Im gonna be a bit V6hiluxe here: how do you figure that, they didnt buy the vehicle.

More research on your part would maybe have avoided the situation you are in, just ringing someone & taking their word for it is not really the way to go, you need to read & understand all the legislation, it is all availiable from them by law, you just need to research it.

I get this all the time in my job, it bus the hell out of me & it is usually people too lazy to actaully go away & have a read & understand before they go blaming someone else.

End rant, flame suit on.

What I am saying is you cannot rely on that alone. You have get everything in writing & understand it. Do your complete homework.

Its not their fault you bought a car that may not comply with the regs.

Did you get the name of the person you spoke to? They may not have fully understood what you were telling them.

Communication is a wonderful thing, I noticed in some of the earlier posts about this vehicle that it has taken another forum member to explain what the vehicle actually is & then people have been able to help.

It happens on here all the time, someone asks a question but doesnt give all the facts & end up with the wrong advice.

What I am trying to drum into you here is thats its not their responsibility to make sure everything is right, it is your responsibility to proove to them that it is right.

Weather you agree with the system or not thats tha way it is.
Don't ask me, ask them. I'm just runnin for my life myself.
