TYRE CHOICE FOR GU PATROL
Hi everyone. Can anyone please help me out with choosing a tire for my GU patrol. I am currently running Maxxis Bighorns 35's on a 15" x 10" steel rims with 7" coil lift, front air locker, and 85% reduction gears. I have been reasonably happy with the Bighorns, except for side wall damage and rolling the tyre off the bead allot with 19 PSI off road. I realise other factors may contribute to this. I go off road most weekends as much as I can and always keen to hit the hard tracks. I want a more aggresive tyre for bitchi during the week and hard core tracks on the weekends. Have been thinking about BAJA CLAWS, MTZ'S and MAXXIS MUDZILLAS at the moment. ANY IDEAS ?

At the moment I am thinking claws in the radial or MTZ's. What are the sidewalls like. Do you give them a hiding ? Do they hold up allright.GUEEY

If radials are your choice.
Claws all the way!!
Had 3 sets of 35s and would not buy anything else in radial.
And with your lift, 37X13.5s would rock!!

I have used Radial Claws on all types of conditions, mud, rocky tracks etc.
i dont go below 20 psi and i have never peeled one of the rim.
i cut a sidewall on one tyre crossing a old sleeper bridge( Cut it on a large sleeper nail)
The new claws are using Mickey Thompsons new Power Ply.
A mate of mine was woking for Cooper tyres untill recently and he was telling me that the Bias Claw had been dropped of the sales list for Australia due to the improved preformance of the Radial Claw.

Super strong sidewalls. Much better lateral grip than claws.
Rippin needs to decide whether he is chasing Bias or Radial, if it is bias the offroad ability choice is huge!
The choice for very aggressive in radial is small, to many tyres claiming to be aggressive but in reality they are just average!!

There have been no changes to the claw, the specialty light truck sizes( these tyres are min 13.5 wide and max 15.5 wide) have always had the powerply. The original sizes don't have the powerply.

You will never find 100% of people liking each and every tire.. I think it was Beebee stating that boggers were the best AT he had driven on once..
Too many choices. I have had a set of MTZ's about 2 yrs ago, and found that they where wearing real quick. unless its just the initial wear of a new tyre. Have been looking at the Maxxis Trepadors in the radial and Pro comp Xterrain. I would rather a Bias tyre, If some could tell me that you could get at least 30,000km's out of them for every day use.

Hey Micka. Do you know anyone that runs or has run a bias tyre on the bitchie and off road as a full time everyday tyre, and what sort of km's they got.Micka

Treat them properly - correct pressures, rotate every 5000k including spare, and they should last you 30000ks.
