how are ya,
I have a 3.8 holden engine in my hiace, it has 4.11 gears in the diff and i want too get the ratio as close to a commordore 3.08, so that it does not rev as hard and change gears so quik.
: is 3.54 the highest set of gears that fit in a hiace/hilux diff,
: i herd a guy put a "lock up torque converter" in his hiace and it sat on 2300 at 100km, is that a better option.
: or if anyone has herd of any diff swaps with the same track width or conversions please let me know.
: also is the front and rear hilux diff centers the same
Thanks heaps
Nick

The solid axle front diffs are the same as the rear ones. up to mid 97
Are the axles in it now 5 or 6 stud. 6 stud axles should be 30 spline where as the 5 stud axes are 27? spline
So you'd have to swap the crown wheel and pinion over or it'd be easier put the differntal carrier(bit with the 4 star gears in it) from your current diff into the new one if it has 5 stud axles.

plenty of parts on the bench
I have a 4.3 chev V6 in my Hiace and it used to have the original 4.3 which used to rev way to hard at freeway speeds. I changed the centre
to a 3,78 from a V6 hilux which bolted straight in. I was told that that was the tallest ratio available as a bolt in centre and not aware if a 3.5 exists . It has made it much better but still goes through the gears too quick and goes into overdrive at about 50 km/hr, however I am pretty happy with this ratio as comparecd to before.
I have seen a V8 Hiace with a complete diff out of an XD falcon but was slightly too wide and his sliding side door would rub on the wheel.
