fyi: you have td42ti
use the main part of the manual as normal
then consult the supplement. as for which supplement, use the last supp before your year patrol. ie. i have a 2003 patrol so i use the last supp from 2002.
its a pain in the a$$ but the gu manual refers to the gq manual for the td42 injection pump. i got a hard copy of the gq pump section, which has all the info
the td42ti pump has a timing advance mechanism which isnt covered anywhere, that ive seen.....
anyone have acess to info on the td42ti pump??

relooking at your phots why is there one nissan oil filter & one ryco oil filter??
i'd be dropping the oil and filters and fixing that.

exhaust gas recirculation
basically feeding what comes out your bum into your mouth
the rusty colored thing in the third photo is the solenoid that opens & closes.
where it bolts on to the intake manifold undo the bolts, pull the gasket & make a blanking plate. then put the gasket & blanking plate back in the spot where the gasket was.

theres post upon post about this at patrol4x4.com
basically when exhaust gases get recirculated they mix with oil vapor from the crank case and they from a thick black abrasive sludge in the intake, as this sludge get dragged thru the motor it ultimately reduces its life

i agree with sw1, depending on how far you have gone with the pump, turbo etc its benificial to remove the actutor and butterfly valve in photo 2 to reduce air restriction, then i cut out the plate between the EGR port and the charge air port in the inlet man and welded shut the EGR gallery (under the cast elbow). This has increased the airflow cap by about 20% to match a 75mm custom intake flange and elbow from charge air cooler.
The boys at leading edge head specialists have done a few like this to match the ported head\extractors I have.
Still putting it together so will see how much the power and egts are improved soon.
Aside from that the TD42T im biulding also has that plug ontop of the pump like in photo 1. what does it do?? the pump on my normally asspirated/manual gq dosent have it.....
regards

the only etxra 'electric thingy' on the pump is a solenoid that can advance the timing.
how is that detrimental to big hp??? , unless it takes upon space that is otherwise needed?
the sensor on top of the pump is throttle position sensor. i believe auto gq's have them as well.

The sensor/its actually a pot or variable resistor on top of the pump is for EGR control.sw1 wrote:the only etxra 'electric thingy' on the pump is a solenoid that can advance the timing.

The one that is at the bottom rear of the pump is the TCV or timing control valve.

Around 2003 i think mate, what plug have you disconnected if its the EGR one then that fine.garth wrote:ok thanks matt, i have removed all the EGR off the engine, is the plug ok to be left disconected or are there plug pins to bridge?
The pump i have does not have the elec advance (1995 24V safari model) when did they start putting that on?

The second picture is a smooth shutdown butterfly to reduce cylinder pulsing it has nothing to do with EGR.tweak'e wrote:if you block off the egr disable the egr butterffly in the intake.
the pic of the butterfly accuator (2nd pic) is a little different to most i've seen. check where both the vac tubes go to.

If you look in the factory manual it shows it as working with the egr system
Also when you shut the thing down it doesn't move

Ok ill have to check on that, dont see why it would have anything to do with the EGR but ill have a loook at it.donk wrote:Madrolla68madrolla68 wrote:The second picture is a smooth shutdown butterfly to reduce cylinder pulsing it has nothing to do with EGR.tweak'e wrote:if you block off the egr disable the egr butterffly in the intake.

My view is that the flap is there to provide a pressure drop at cruise so that egr gases will enter the ducting. It may also service as a stopping aid.
