New suspension for my Hilux - Any ideas?

It is a pretty good choice. I prefer Lovells shocks though. Get EFS leafs.
Both Lovells and EFS shocks are made a long way from Australia.

I have a 1992 lux like trains, and im running ARB Dakar HD springs up the front and MD dakars up the rear, with OME shocks and Bushes, In rockcrawler shackles.

i fitted them myself, never got told about the fitting kit (wasnt aware they existed until trains asked me about them a few months back)

The front springs have a definate W shape to them, but they are still holding the truck at least 50mm higher than the old toyo ones were, and are within 10mm of each other side to side, but the rears arent in the same boat.

In hindsight, i should have gone HD front and rear, but i didnt have the LR tank or cargo drawers at the point when i bought the springs, so i was after a better ride. I'll be fitting HD springs as part of my engine conversion project.

I think it depends on the day you get the stuff- i havent had a problem with the OME gear on MY personal truck- and i will be getting ARB shackles and pins to match (unless i go for some extended ones).

But i cant really say the same for the OME stuff fitted to my work truck. Its a HZJ79 series cruiser, with a drilling rig on the back of it for soil sampling. Its been fitted with the OME 3700kg GVM upgrade, and the rear springs have NOT coped with the weight. It is about 50kg overweight, but if i hook a tandem trailer with 2 tonnes in it (Still well below the GCM of the truck) it would be more tha 50kg overweight due to the towbar downweight.

my rear wheels are cutting themselves on the wheel arches because they touch- So now it looks like we're either going to ditch the $400 leaf packs and get some custom, 800kg constant load packs fitted, or end up fitting air bags to assist the springs.

Bit hit and miss on their stuff at times....

Oh- But when my OME shocks fail, Im not fitting them again, Im going to line up a set of Bilstiens for the old girl ;)

I suggest an air assist kit. $450 at the moment. They will last longer then leafs and give a better ride. You can easily fit them yourself. (You still get a warranty :rofl: )

hey i am wondering, i am wonting to run ifs rears in my hilux but dont wanna add any height.

shoud i get stock rears and run shackles or the 2'' lifted and try to get away wit standard shackles?

also could i run 3'' lifted efs front leafs since i got v8 and it will sag, therefore the 3' will really sit abt 2''??

Ifs rears on standard shackles won't work without moving the shackle mount and the length of the standard shackle will realy defeat the purpose or fitting ifs rears as the longer spring will run out of shackle movement run standard ifs rears on bubs shackles drop the load leafs if your not doing alot of load carrying if it's your work truck and defantly run a track/ladder bar because of the v8. What engine was in it before the v8 and what v8 is it

Talk to the efs supplier and let them know what engne is in it they be able to get you the right thing for what you want.

Gday mate. If you do a bit of a history search about EFS and OME spring and shock questoins you'll see this over and over again. I had OME in my lux when I bought it and it was pretty flogged out, but then it did have over 200k on the clock. I found the OME rough and drove all over the place. But as I said it was flogged out and quite old.

Had a set of EFS springs and shocks fitted and gees what a difference, drove well over corrugations and bumps, flexed good(for what it is), and smooth as! I never had one problem with the kit, or the suspension. Actually I did have one grease nipple fall off but that's not a manufacturer's fault. It was no big deal. You won't regret going with EFS. And they were around $200 cheaper than ARB's overpriced shit.

hey ive got a lux from 84' and has been set up by the team at ultimate suspension sytems in minto sydney west.its still kikking ass 10yrs later.raised about 4inches from the chassis not shakles,gas all rnd.incl. the steerring damper,nolathane rubbers,only my leafs are off set now,but solid axle and strong as,i give her a beating up here,she takes it fine , just got on the web site toget info on the shocks and theyre twin piston
this car has 380000 odo ks 2nd donk 22r,may turbo her yet.
my other cars an xwgt silver fox custom xr interior go the windsors!

the product is made in australia and sold through about 150 authorised stores across australia.
what in specific was your problem?again what model vehicle?

i have driven hundreds of 4x4's,with every suspension system on the market.and not one drove better than one with an ome kit.in fact the worst of the lot would be pedders and efs.i would not recommend these brands to anyone.

nobody spends as much time and money on research and development than ome,its why they have been the market benchmark and market leaders for the last 20 years and will continue long after companies like efs are dead and buried.[/quote]

sorry, couldn't help but add my 2 cents....
which of the ome products on an ifs hilux kit is made in aus....not the t/bars, umm or the leafs for that matter.
sounds like you may have a slightly biased opinion...you dont sell it do you? and not one drove better than an ome kit...come on dude, dont be so blatantly obvious that you sound ignorant. i assume you dont offer other products like efs because you dont sell it, and if you do your margins aren't as good.
and by the way, they aren't the market leaders in suspension and they aren't leaving other companies in the suspension game for dead. check the figures, you'd be suprised.
