lifting a vitara 2 inches

Post by gumtree »

i have a vit and 2inch body lift and the rear bumper looks really ugly sitting down lower from the car body. is it easy to raise it up or is it 2 much of a hassle ie. getting all the clips to hold it up properly and the exhaust in its hole out the back... :) cheers dudes.

Ive done a few - three spacers and longer bolts across the top, some work around the mudflap brackets, and a couple of tabs welded on where the bumper brackets bolt to the chassis under the number plate and the bumper goes back on.

yeah tis a common problem i think.

steve, how do the spacers and longer bolts work and where are they placed as i can only see the white plastic thing on the side that holds it up there and cant imagine how to adjust it higher. also what do u do to the bumper around the rear tow hook as shown in the pic? how long would u say the whole process takes also.

and yes kits would be helpfull if available as i havnt got access to a welder.

Body lift

Post by Impulsive »

I just lifted mine using some old suspension rubbers I had laying around. You could also use something like scateboard wheels cut to the same size as the amount of lift you have... and longer bolts to suit

You take the bumper skin off and there's a steel support underneath that needs to be lifted- that's what the spacers bolts and tabs are required for.

Not sure about the tow hook, I've only done LWB and 2L vits that have a slightly different bumper profile with the number plate in them and the tow hook is below the bumper, not set through. Might need to cut the bumper around it.

I pretty much just worked it out as I went.

Tow hook

Post by Impulsive »

With the tow hook in mine, I just cut out the bit of the bumper cover that normally goes under it so that now, with the body lift, it just sits in a full recess, and not "through" anything.

The reason I don't supply anything with my kits is exactly this, there are numerous different bumpers all of which have different mounting methods. The easist method would be to remove the mounting plates from the chassis and reattach or to use a length of 50mm box section. I would suggest supporting the length of the bumper incase and weight is applied to this area ie using it as a step etc.

Body lift

Post by Impulsive »

With a floor jack and on my own, it only took me a few hours.

The body lift was the easy part. The hard bit was figuring out what to use to lift the rear bar, getting the new holes for the bullbar in the right spot, and then fixing up the sticks inside so I could reach all gears and ranges without them popping out or not going in at all.
